On this page, you'll be able to see what I'm up to on social media everyday. Perhaps not everyday, but posts, especially photos and videos that I've uploaded on social media. Posts from my Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and hopefully eventually from my YouTube page. And you'll get to see the photo or video, and the link for it, or something that I commented on that I saw in my email on Google, that I commented on will be posted on this page. I hope you enjoy it, or at least find it interesting.
8/20/2021 - Hollywood Babydoll Jayne Mansfield with one her funniest and most intelligent quotes. She was always anything but boring and always a lot more intelligent than she wanted people to know. And I believe if she stuck with comedy, I think we're talking about one of our best female comedians ever at this point and perhaps she's even still working today, if she got her life together.
Jayne Mansfield: "If you're going to do something wrong, do it big, because the punishment is the same either way."
8/23/2021 - Talk about your great Hollywood comedy duos. Well, they would've been if Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Rooney ever worked together.
IMDB: "Jayne Mansfield, Sophia Loren and Mike Romanoff at Romanoff's in Beverly Hills, CA / 04-12-1957"
8/24/2021 - Perhaps the King of Cool #SteveMcQueen and #Hollywood Babydoll #JayneMansfield in 1959. If McQueen is the King of Cool, then Jayne was good enough to be in his company.
Kings & Queens of Cool: "Steve McQueen and Jayne Mansfield visiting The Los Angeles Examiner Grand Prix on March 8 1959.
At that time, Jayne was at the top of her career. She was (sadly?) promoted by Twentieth Century-Fox as "Marilyn Monroe king-sized", having starred in blockbusters such as "The Girl Can't Help It" and "The Wayward Bus".
Steve was the television star of the CBS western series "Wanted Dead or Alive" as the bounty hunter Josh Randall."
8/25/2021 - English Muffin Diana Dors and her husband (at the time) Richard (don't call me Little Dick) Dawson at the Cannes Film Festival in France, in 1956.

8/26/2021 - English Muffin Diana Dors appearing on the Phill Silvers show (with guess who) in 1955. Diana was a natural and gifted comedian and it's comedy where I believe she really stands out as an entertainer. Just look at her interviews, her TV appearances, here own writings and I believe she's as funny as Shelly Winters, Joan Collins, and other great comedic actresses.
IMDB: "Diana Dors and Phil Silvers in The Phil Silvers Show (1955)"
8/27/2021 - Reelz did an autopsy documentary about Hollywood Babydoll Marilyn Monroe last month and sort of reexamined her case. None of the facts and the evidence has changed, which their doctor concluded. She killed herself accidentally by overdose.
E Investigator: "More than 50 years have passed since the world lost the beautiful, beloved sweetheart and sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe. Anyone who met her, watched her movies, or listened to her music, clearly remembers the wit, charm, and beauty that she brought to life both on and off the silver screen. This article provides an overview of the circumstances surrounding her death. In addition, it provides information on the investigation that followed and the results of Marilyn Monroe’s autopsy report."

8/31/2021 - Hollywood and fashion Goddess CindyCrawford out in NewYork. Gorgeous as always.
Denimology: "Cindy Crawford was out in New York City, leaving Sweetgreen with her model son, Presley Gerber.
She was wearing a double denim outfit consisting of a pair of dark blue raw bootcut jeans and a light blue denim chambray shirt.
Cindy looked gorgeous in her very simple but nonetheless quite sexy outfit. You don’t get to see many ladies wearing classic bootcut jeans nowadays and we love that look on Cindy.
Another plus is that her jeans are pretty raw, there is no distressing and certainly no rips. A classic blue wash that will be marking a strong presence again this fall and winter."
9/20/2021 - This is from a documentary about the last days and years of Hollywood Babydoll Jayne Mansfield.
The Daily Review: "What happened to Jayne Mansfield? Well as far as her death, she died in a car accident in June, 1967. She was a passenger and not driving and was headed to New Orleans from Biloxi, Mississippi just after midnight because Jayne had an interview that next day on a local New Orleans news show. They probably should have waited until the next morning to leave because as we know now the driver of the car was working and driving literally on no sleep."
9/21/2021 - Hollywood Babydoll Loni Anderson, playing Hollywood Babydoll Jayne Mansfield, in The Jayne Mansfield Story from 1980. A very good CBS TV movie about Jayne.

9/22/2021 - I know this is a really sad photo, because it's the photo of the car crash that killed Hollywood Babydoll Jayne Mansfield, as well as the two men that were supposed to drive her on that horrible night in 1967. But it's obviously an important part of her life.
Jayne Mansfield Diamonds To Dust: “How Jayne Mansfield’s Death Car Changed The Trucking Industry. Great New segment about The Mansfield Bar on the REAR of Truck’s and how her death changed Federal regulations.”
9/23/2021 - Hollywood Babydoll Loni Anderson, as Hollywood Babydoll Jayne Mansfield. If there is one actress who is adorable and funny enough to play Jayne, it's Loni.
Tune in Tonight: “Thanks to social media, it’s now easier than ever to become “famous,” often for doing as little as Tweeting a joke (or someone else’s joke, if you’re Josh Ostrowsky). Sometimes you don’t even need to try–merely saying something funny in a “man on the street” interview will turn you into someone’s “spirit animal.” Back in Hollywood’s golden age, however, you had to work hard to get publicity, let alone keep it, and no one worked harder than Jayne Mansfield.”

From The Daily Review
9/24/2021 - The Jayne Mansfield Story, with Loni Anderson as Jayne Mansfield, was based off of a book that was written by Martha Saxton. And I think CBS did an excellent job.
IMDB: “Martha Saxton’s ‘Jayne Mansfield And The American Fifties’ is a fascinating, deeply probing biography on the short, tragic life of a Hollywood … symbol. ”
9/27/2021 - IMDB with a look at The Jayne Mansfield Story from CBS in 1980, starring Loni Anderson as Jayne Mansfield. Good movie about Baby Jayne.
IMDB: “The movie tells the story of Hollywood movie star Jayne Mansfield. Like Marilyn Monroe, Mansfield was a sex symbol of the 1950s. She was able to succeed in Hollywood, became the owner of several theater awards. She also appeared several times in Playboy magazine. Her tragic death in a road accident ended her life at age 34.”

9/30/2021 - Brandon De Wilde and English Muffin Diana Dors, guess-starring on Alfred Hitchcock's the Alfred Hitchcock Presents, in 1961.
IMDB: “When a magician named The Great Sadini emerges from his trailer one night, he notices a young man named Hugo lying unconscious on the carnival grounds and takes him to his trailer. The boy is a runaway from a “home” who proves to be simple-minded; his first impression upon waking is that Sadini and his wife are the devil and an angel respectively. Sadini’s compassionate nature compels him to take the kid under his wing and teach him about magic. Conversely, the cold-hearted wife has something more sinister in mind and implores the impressionable young man to commit a murder.”
10/01/2021 - English Muffin Diana Dors, guess-starring on #AlfredHitchcock's Alfred Hitchcock Presents, in 1961.
Rosario Maynard: “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a seventh-season episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents made in the summer of 1961 that has never been broadcast on network.”
10/05/2021 - English Muffin Diana Dors and actor David Stewart, starring on Alfred Hitchcock's Alfred Hitchcock Presents, in 1961.
Alfred Hitchcock: “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” is a seventh-season episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents made in the summer of 1961 that has never been broadcast on network television. The episode was scheduled to be episode #39 of the season. The story and teleplay were written by Robert Bloch, the author of Psycho, and the episode was directed by Josef Leytes.
The four main characters are played by Diana Dors (Irene Sadini), Brandon deWilde (Hugo), David J. Stewart (Vincent Sadini), and Larry Kert (George Morris).
Although once qualified as a lost episode, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” has since been widely distributed in syndication and – due to its status in the public domain – in numerous Hitchcock home media releases and video on demand.”
5/16/2022 - Aaron Jackson: "How is a team with 5 future or former All Stars, not deeply talented??"
Erik Schneider: "Other than Isiah Thomas, you can't really say that the Bad Boy Pistons were loaded with great, Hall of Fame players, where you know those players were some of the best ever. The Pistons of that era had a lot of very good, even All Star caliber players. But other than Isiah, there isn't another player from that team that could consider as one of the best ever or one of the best from that era."
Source:The NBA History- Detroit Pistons power forward/center James Edwards. |
Aaron Jackson: "I never said they were littered with Hall of Famers or?elite?superstars..but when you have 2 HOFers and 3 multiple All Stars additionally, that is indeed a very talented team, historically."
Erik Schneider: "I don't know what we're arguing about. I'm saying deep and you are saying very talented. But even Isiah would tell you that the Pistons of this era wasn't a great team individually.
From The NBA History
5/17/2022 - Aaron Jackson: "Isiah Thomas 12 time All Star
Joe Dumars 6 time All Star
Mark Aguirre 4 time All Star
Bill Laimbeer 4 time All Star
Dennis Rodman 2 time DPOY, perennial rebound champ and All Star
Vinnie Johnson excellent reserve scorer.
That is likely a top 20 roster of all time. Isiah was 20/10 in his prime, while Aguiire was an elite scorer for his pre Pistons career. Joe D was a very good scorer also. Isiah was one of the elite 4th qtr scorers in NBA history."
Erik Schneider: "Yeah, but other than Isiah and perhaps Joe D, you are not seeing a lot of All Star appearances. Only Magic Johnson was a better PG in Isiah's time. You can't really argue that the other plays were in the top 3-5 at their positions in their career. Joe Dumars was a better all around player than Mark Aquirre. Dennis Rodman started over Aguirre after their first championship."
7/10/2022 - LloydKline: "The general manager was a genius putting that team together lots of role players"
Erik Schneider: "That was the point that was trying to get across to @AaronJackson, that you don't have to have a team of franchise players to be a great team back then. You don't have to be the Celtics and Lakers to have a great team. The Pistons were deep with great role players and good players, but Isiah was their only true great player as far as being one of the best players ever at his position."
@LloydKleine: "2004 NBAchampion detroit piston didn?"t have a superstar either,; bill lambeer was a journeyman NBAcenter going to the detroit;: james edward was a journeyman; rick mahorn was a journeyman"
Erik Schneider: "Right, but they were all good players. Rick Mahorn before the back injury was a very good two-way big man. He had a post game, good rebounder, could hit the mid-range jumper, excellent defender."
From The NBA History
5/20/2022 - Erik Schneider: "Racism has always been a two-way street in every sport. The NBA is a perfect example of that. But when you mix players of different races together and they get to know each other and play against each other, then they can see each other as just human beings and players. Cedric Maxwell's story about Larry Bird is a perfect example of that."
Greg A: "No it’s pretty much just basketball. Wouldn’t say they even disliked Bird or white players."
Erik Schneider: "I didn’t’ say dislike. Maxwell assumed that Bird couldn’t play because of his race. That’s what I was talking about."

5/27/2022 - Erik Schneider: I understand that Patricia Krenwinkel is a much different and better person today than she was 50 years ago. But if the right to life means anything in America, people who've murdered not just 1 , or 2, or 3 people, but 7 murders that she's guilty of, should never be free in American society again. If the right to life means anything in America.
ABC News: "A California parole panel recommended the release of Patricia Krenwinkel for the first time Thursday, more than five decades after she and other followers of cult leader Charles Manson terrorized the state and she wrote “Helter Skelter” on a wall using the blood of one of their victims.
Krenwinkel, 74, was previously denied parole 14 times for the slayings of pregnant actor Sharon Tate and four other people in 1969. She helped kill grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary the next night in what prosecutors say was an attempt by Manson to start a race war...
6/07/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Babydoll (or Hollywood Barbiedoll) Barbara Nichols. She made a career out of being a supporting actress, even when she was young. She never had a lead role in a major movie. I think if she went into TV full-time, she would've been a star because was so cute and funny.
Barbara Nichols: "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (1956), The Wild Party (1956), Sweet Smell of Success (1957)"
Douglas John Musielak: "They will always be the Redskins to me."
Erik Schneider: "Damn, straight!"

6/08/2022 - Benjamin Rice: "When RFK was new. Great old People's Drug sign. Was a great drugstore until it got gobbled up by CVS."
Erik Schneider: "There was one in downtown Bethesda on the same street where I went to high school. It also had a Roy Rogers and Hot Shoppes, and a local bookstore. Great shopping center."
Benjamin Rice: "nice. We used to go to the one at Arlington Rd and Bradley Blvd when I was growing up."
Erik Schneider: "Small world."

6/10/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Falcons of the late 1970s and early 80s weren't always winners, but they were never boring. And when they played defense, they were pretty good, because they had Steve Bartkowski and a lot of offensive firepower.
Comrade Dobler: "1981 Falcons at Browns Game 4"
6/13/2022 - Erik Schneider: The game against the 49ers in 1987 pretty much sums up the 1987 Cincinnati Bengals season. Because they were 4-11 but lot so many games at the end that they could've won.
Movie Clips: "Bengals vs 49ers 1987 Final Seconds"
6/14/2022 - Erik Schneider: In a movie that's as close to perfection as you'll ever see coming from Hollywood, this is one of the best scenes from Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest, with Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint.
Buzz Feed: "In North by Northwest, you can see a child covering his ears right before a loud gunshot fires, spoiling the twist of the scene."
6/15/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Diane Baker guess-starring on the finality of The Fugitive TV series with David Janssen in 1967. Dr. Kimble (played by David Janssen) finally gets his one-armed man.
IMDB: "The one-armed man is arrested in Los Angeles for fighting and police want the story highlighted in the newspaper to try and lure Kimble into capture."
Carl Thiel: "Wasn't this the first dramatic series that had an actual ending?"
Erik Schneider: "Beats the hell out of me."
Carl Thiel: "ABC Network did not want to have a conclusion ending. The show's programming executive fought to have an ending. Being that he had a sponsor for the One More/Two Part Episode, they agreed. It was the highest rated show until the end of MASH."
Carl Thiel: "I must admit I felt cheated when beloved series, whether comedic or dramatic, didn't have ending episodes. Instead, they simply stopped."
6/16/2022 - Maddy McDowell: "Read that David Janssen wanted there to be a shock ending - last shot of him rolling up his sleeve revealing a prosthetic arm! 😄"
Tanner Newsham: "Played her role beautifully in Silence of the Lambs as the Senator."

Keep in mind, Hollywood Goddess Raquel Welch is actually 81 years old in real-life and yet she still has the face and smile of a babydoll. Still too cute to be real.
Smeena Saeed: "Raquel Welch, 81, Seen For The 1st Time In Over 2 Years On Rare Outing"
Jerry Smith: "Nice rack too"
Erik Schneider: "I like guys who get straight to the point."
Steve Richards: "Possibly wearing gloves because there's no plastic surgery or botox that can make hands look younger."
Joe Szymanski Sr.: "I can work around that."
Jim Reinke: "Lookin’ good Momma. ❤️"
Charles Morrison: "Hi beautiful sexy lady"
Mark H. Lovejoy: "What a pillow!"
David Brenner: "What say you fussy britches

6/20/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Bears with no QB, versus probably the best all around defense in the NFL, in the Colts, at Baltimore Memorial Stadium. Looks like a mismatch.
Comrade Dobler: "1968 Bears at Colts week 4"
6/21/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Bears were never good with Dick Butkus, for the most part, but they were always tough and could still play great defense. The 1970 Colts is probably the last great Colts team in Baltimore.
Comrade Dobler: "1970 Bears at Colts week 11"
6/22/2022 - Erik Schneider: Da Bears (as they're called in Chicago) could still play great defense in the 1960s, with Dick Butkus.
Comrade Dobler: "1967 Bears at Lions week 8"
6/23/2022 - Erik Schneider: When the Bears could get any offense at all in the 1960s, (which wasn't very often) they were still a pretty good team.
Comrade Dobler: "1967 Lions at Bears week 5"
6/24/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Rams Fearsome Foursome defense against the Gayle Sayers Bears, Looks like an interesting matchup.
Comrade Dobler: "1967 Rams at Bears week 7"
At some point in 2012, I commented on a YouTube video about Charles Manson and wrote this: "Charlie Manson doesn't meet any legal definition of insane, he knew exactly what he was doing all the time. And how to carry it out, he was evil which is different. "
Vagoe Art: "Explain to me how hes evil bro legit"
Erik Schneider: "Definition of evil: "Evil, in a general sense, is defined as the opposite or absence of good." That was Charles Manson. If Manson is ever cared about anyone, it was only himself."
6/27/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Bears were still winning in 1967 with Dick Butkus and Gayle Sayers and they still played sold defense. The Falcons, were the Falcons, a 2nd year NFL franchise.

Comrade Dobler: "1967 Bears at Falcons week 14"
6/28/2022 - Erik Schneider: I don't think the Packers-Bears rivalry is the best rivalry in the NFL anymore, simply because the Bears haven't been consistent winners for a long time. But it's still a great rivalry.
Comrade Dobler: "1968 Packers at Bears GOTW week 14"
6/30/2022 - Justin Miller: "Giants Eagles was such a better rivalry during the Cunningham era."
Erik Schneider: "Right, because those teams were better."
From Real NFL Fans
Justin Miller: "not just that. You had Jersey split among the fan base. And some very memorable moments like a blocked FG returned for a TD to end a game. Cunningham punting it 91 yards and flipping into the end zone. The Giants always seemed to be the better team, but the Eagles would have their number."
Erik Schneider: "I was referring the Redskins, Eagles, and Giants, all being better than the Cowboys in the late 1980s and early 90s, until the Cowboys took over in 92. That's why the rivalries that the Redskins had with the Giants and Cowboys, were better at that point as far as the quality of the games, then what those three teams still had with the Cowboys."
From Real NFL Fans
Justin Miller: "you were talking Eagles-Skins. I said I prefer Eagles-Giants. Nobody mentioned the Cowboys."
Erik Schneider: "OK, you prefer Eagles-Giants. But I don't think you can argue that the Eagles were better than the Redskins during that period."
From Real NFL Fans
Justin Miller: "I didn't make that argument. I said they split NJ NY and Philly. I also said from memory there were some incredible Giants Eagles games that stack up with some of the best games ever. Maybe for Washington the Eagles were the biggest rival. And maybe in a given year for the Eagles it was Washington. But I think if you talk to most Eagles fans the Giants were the bigger rivalry."
Erik Schneider: "As I said, you prefer the Giants-Eagles rivalry."
Justin Miller: "Both great Rivalries for sure. Giants were 23-18 versus the Eagles in the 80s and 90s. 4 games went into OT with 9 games decided by 3 points or less.
Washington was 22-21 in the 80s and 90s with two OT games with 9 games decided by 3 or less.
Coincidently Giants vs Washington during that time was 21-18-1with 1 OT game with 8 games decided by 3 or less. But includes the infamous hit by LT on Theismann."
Erik Schneider: "Hum, "Giants vs Washington" I take it you are a Giants fan."
From Real NFL Fans
Kim Jones: "See that's the problem with professional football. Fans think you got to hate your opponent to play the game. You are just pitting your skills against their skills. Whoever executes the best win"
Erik Schneider: "We're talking about sports here (another way of saying not real) and yes the games and people involved are real, but words like hate get thrown around. What that really means is we hate to see our rivals do well, especially at our expense. Not that we personally hate the players, coaches, and fans from the other teams. Sports is an escape for most sports fans from their real world."
From NFL Classic
Adam Daniel Carman: "In the 80s and 90s all NFC East games were wars. Even the Cardinals didn't go easy."

7/05/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Bears were 9-5 in 1965, with rookies Dick Butkus and Gayle Sayers and had a very good team. The Colts were 10-3 and this close to getting to the NFL Championship, before losing out to the Green Bay Packers. So this was an excellent matchup.

7/11/2022 - Erik Schneider: I'm not sure a lot of NFL fans are aware that the 49ers and Colts were not just in the same conference, but the same division at one point. But NFL history fans know that.
I think this is Colts TE John Mackey.
Baltimore Memorial Stadium
7/24/2022 - LD Freitas: "Conference was what the West and East of the old NLF were called in the 50s and 60s. This was also the last year of NO playoffs, only the first place teams going to the NFL Championship game. There were two ties in back to back years requiring a playoff game: 49ers hosting the Lions in 1957, and Giants hosting the Browns in 1958, with the Lions going to the championship against the Browns a week later and the same of the Giants against the Colts in that famous sudden death overtime win of the Colts."
Erik Schneider: "It was certainly interesting, but I prefer divisional play within the conferences. That's how the 49ers-Rams and other NFL teams started their great divisional rivalries."

7/18/2022 - Ryan Woods: "I understand what your saying to a certain degree. I'm glad you acknowledged he isn't the second greatest RB ever though. Great thought & point."
Erik Schneider: "Thanks. I'm saying he's not the 2nd best all round RB ever, simply because he's not."
From Facebook
Ryan Woods: "he's the smoothest runner ever in my opinion & many other's. Dickerson's biggest knock his running didn't directly lead to a lot of team success like the other All-Time great rb's. Have him #7 on my All-Time rb list."
Erik Schneider: "Or, he was more interested in making money, than winning football games."
From Facebook
7/19/2022 - Britt Prentice: "Jim Brown was bigger than linebackers and even linemen. Average weight and height for a lineman was 6'2" 235lbs in the 50s-60s. Jim was 6'2" 232lbs. Different game. Jim would not be a man among boys today."
Erik Schneider: "Actually, 235 for a RB back then, would not be 235 today. So you could at least argue that JB would be even bigger and stronger today, than he was back then. If you go by the theory that NFL players get bigger and stronger, as the league gets older."
Chris Paez: "I get your point. Dickerson wasn't the best receiver or blocker but his running was so much better I think most people would still take Dickerson over just about anyone. AND HE IS on the 1980's All Decade Team."
Erik Schneider: " If you are simply talking about running the ball out of the backfield. But based on that, Roger Craig was the same size as ED, but not as tall and was about just as fast as ED, and had a lot more skills."
Chris Paez: "I just looked at the All Decade team. It was Dickerson and Payton at RB. Unless there's more than one version ?. And yeah Roger Craig was great but I bet more people would take Dickerson over Roger Craig."
Erik Schneider: "Are we taking polls now? I thought we were talking about the best all around RB, versus the best runners at RB."
Chris Paez: "I'm not arguing with you. I already said Dickerson wasn't the best receiver or blocker. My point is that I'll take Dickerson over any back from the 1980s."
Erik Schneider: "OK, got your point."
Britt Prentice: "Eric was 6'3" 220, Derrick Henry 6'3" 247, Faulk 5'10" 212, LT 5'10" 216, Emmitt 5'9 216. Gurley 6'1" 230, Chubb 5'11 225. Henry is very rare being so big. The backs today are not huge."
Erik Schneider: "None of those players played 60 years ago. Bo Jackson was considered a man among boys in the 1980s. Similar size to Jim Brown."
Britt Prentice: "thank you for making my point. Bo 6'1" 230lbs."
Erik Schneider: "Not only that, but the guys you mentioned who play today, are about the same size as the RB's of the 1980s. So Jim Brown would be a man among boys today as a tailback as well at 6'2 230 pounds, or so, with the great speed."
Britt Prentice: "no he would not. The average LB is 6'3" 240. Average lineman 6'4" 315. Brown would not be a man among boys stomping on Aaron Donald. He would be great, not dominant against far smaller opposition as he was."
Erik Schneider: "Again I could take you back to Bo Jackson from the 1980s and the size he played at and the defenders he went up against or just use the fact that JB would be even bigger and stronger today, with all the access to modern medicine, weight training, personal trainers, that he didn't have in the 1960s. I don't see much point in arguing this."
David Thompson: "people forget how good Dorsett was. I could take or leave Craig. He found the perfect scheme for him offensively. Huge Walter Payton fan though. He’s on my Mt Rushmore along with Brown and Sanders. For that 4th spot on the Mt. I can argue for ED, Emmitt, prime Terrell Davis or Tony Dorsett. Maybe Curtis Martin, who is overlooked but was consistent and durable as they come."
Erik Schneider: "We agree on Dorsett and Payton. It's Roger Craig whose overlooked. Should've been in the Hall of Fame a long time ago."
David Thompson: "He’s got a good argument for the HOF, and I love those 49ers teams, even as a Rams fan, but I wouldn’t put him in the conversation of beat backs ever. At the same time, he only had 3 1,000 yard rushing seasons over an 11 year career, and only one of those was dynamic. His 85 season was amazing, but he never really got close to anything like that again. It’s arguable his best ability was as a receiving back. But if Ricky Watters isn’t in, I don’t know how Craig gets in."
Erik Schneider: "If Roger Craig is not one of the best RB's ever, then how does he have a "good argument" for the HOF?"
David Thompson: "for his era, he was considered one of the best backs. He won multiple Super Bowls. His 1000 yd rushing and receiving season was great. And despite his lack of stellar running stats, he still caught over 500 passes for his career which was almost unheard of. He’s not in the top 20 RBs of all time. But there are other RBs in with similar or even a lesser pedigree. That being said, I’m not gonna lost sleep if he doesn’t make it. That might be the most damning thing about him, you look at his career and it’s something that doesn’t overwhelm you as an omission that he’s not in the HOF."
Erik Schneider: "for his era, he was considered one of the best backs. He won multiple Super Bowls. His 1000 yd rushing and receiving season was great." I could rest my case for Roger Craig with what you said about him. Two standards that HOF voters look at when deciding if someone should be in the HOF: were they one of the best players at their position during their era. Your answer for that is obvious yes. The other standard is would they be a great player in every era. The answer to that is obvious yes as well. Craig has a numbers game working against him since he played on a team with a lot of other HOF players. But just because a team was deep, shouldn't disqualify you for the HOF. He'll get in eventually and hopefully while he's still alive, unlike Ken Stabler."

7/20/2022 - Erik Schneider: Diana Van der Vlis and Leslie Nielsen making guest appearances on ABC's The Fugitive in 1963. Before Leslie Nielsen went into comedy in the 1980s, he had a lot of character roles on TV and in the movies that kept him busy in the 1960s and 70s.
IMDB: "Kimble risks his own freedom and life to help an elderly transient who is wrongly accused of murder when he's caught stealing a dead man's wallet."
Brian Driscoll: "She looks like Sally Kellerman."
Erik Schneider: "That's what I'm thinking."

7/21/2022 - Erik Schneider: When I first saw Elizabeth Allen on The Fugitive a few nights ago, I thought this was Elizabeth Montgomery and perhaps Allen was her maiden name. But the more pics you see of Elizabeth Allen, who made multiple appearances on The Fugitive, you know that they're two different women.
IMDB: "Working at a remote construction site, Dr. Kimble tries protect a coworker with a low I.Q. from being lynched when the caring married woman who's been teaching him to read, is assaulted by an unknown attacker."
7/22/2022 - Joseph F Cristarella: "It is harder to have a longer season, but you cannot compare the yardage, playing 17 games gives you a distinct advantage over those in 12 game seasons to gain more yardage, keeping in mind the defense back then may have been smaller than today but there was so much more they could do, a running back today does not have to routinely be clothes lined, helmet to helmet hits with far inferior helmets, etc. So things kind of work out in the end."
Erik Schneider: "You sound like someone who knows his NFL history and not automatically assuming the great players today, are definitely better than the players before them. The only thing that I would add is the rules that Jim Brown played under, clearly favored defenses over offenses. Which is why the average NFL team ran the ball a lot more back then, than they do today. So Jim Brown had to work with smaller holes, fewer games and he still ran for 13,000 yards in 9 seasons, playing 116 games, over 100 TD's."

Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Elaine Giftos making a guess appearance on ABC's Barney Miller in 1980. She made a lot of TV guess appearances in the 1970s and 80s, mostly on sitcoms like Bob Newhart, Three's Company, and Barney Miller. She was so cute and beautiful, as well as funny.
IMDB: "Harris poses as a vagrant to go undercover to solve a string of crimes, and then he disappears. A woman wants Wojo or Dietrich to make a baby with her."
Jared Mashburn: "She was on every show in the 70s. Loved her when she popped up. Sophisticated and so beautiful."
Andrew Gilmore: "I remember her on a Three’s Company episode. Cute."
From Erik Schneider
Lawrence Cohen: "Elaine was in dozens of ABC shows"
Rob Chamberlin: "She was also in an episode of Knight Rider. Custom Made Killer."
David Meyers: "I remember her. I watched a lot of t.v. in 60's, 70's, and 80's. Not so much after that."
Michael Sipes: "Reminded me of Diana Canova"
Bob Hahn: "Didn't she play Ruben Kincaid's girlfriend in one or two episodes of Partridge Family?"
Aaron Langford: She chose Levitt,lol..."
From The Daily Press
Becky Feliciano: "Elaine Giftos was practically radiant in the appearances I saw, my favorite is Three's Company, where innocent Chrissy has no idea that Elaine's character is a prostitute. She is beautiful, classy, funny and bright. I forgot about this one, I need to go watch it again!

7/25/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Babydoll Pamela Tiffin, guess-starring on ABC's The Fugitive, with David Janssen in 1963.
If you are familiar with the movie Harper (1966) with Paul Newman, Lauren Bacall, and Robert Wagner, then you should have a pretty good idea who Pam Tiffin is, because she had a major role in that film as well.
The Girl From Little Egypt is a pretty powerful episode that shows you flashbacks from the pilot film of this series. Actor Ed Nelson also has a major role in this episode.
IMDB: "A beautiful airline stewardess badly injuries Kimble in a traffic accident and in his delirium he admits who he is and she helps him. In turn, Kimble helps her realize the married man she's dating is not right for her."
Gary Gold: "Excellent episode; it depicts Richard Kimballs life before he went on the run. Beautiful; underatted Pamela Tiffin gave a fine performance as a sweet; naive airline stewardess."

Steve Jenson: "Guess-starring?" Does that mean she was uncredited and you had to guess who she was?"

7/28/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Jacqueline Scott and Barry Morse on ABC's The Fugitive, in 1966, the Running Scared episode. She made multiple appearances on that show, including the TV movie of that series which was the finale in 1967. To me, she's an excellent, versatile actress, who was very good on TV.
The Sun: "Jacqueline kicked off her entertainment career when she was just three years old and won a tap dancing contest.
After that experience, she only wanted to learn more about the world of show business and ended up touring with a tent show in her home state when she was a bit older.
Though, she would train as an actress by watching as many movies as possible, her first acting roles were on the stage.
She worked for a theatre company in St. Louis for a while before making her way to New York City."
7/29/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Babydoll Teri Hatcher in 2 Days in The Valley, from 1996. If you like funny crime dramas, I think you'll like this movie. It's a very funny film with Teri Hatcher, Charlize Theron, James Spader, Jeff Daniels, Eric Stoltz, and others.

8/10/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood actress Jacqueline Scott appearing on the first season of ABC's The Fugitive in 1964. I always thought she was really good on TV and would've like to have seen her with a regular role on a good TV show.
IMDB: "Dr. Kimble returns to his hometown where he reunites with his father John, and his loving sister Donna, who absolutely believe in his innocence, but Kimble's brother Ray has serious doubts about him."
8/11/2022 - Bob Slone: "Is that Bill Mumy and Opie’s little brother (name slips my mind)"
The Daily Press: "That's what the people in these groups think. But I don't know for sure. It's the actress that I'm interested in."
From The Daily Press
Erik Schneider: Actor Barry Morse, who obviously was a regular on ABC's The Fugitive, playing the Stafford, Indiana detective lieutenant, whose sole mission in life was to catch fugitive Richard Kimble. With actress Jacqueline Scott, who play Dr. Kimble's sister and several episodes of that series.
IMDB: "Dr. Kimble returns to his hometown where he reunites with his father John, and his loving sister Donna, who absolutely believe in his innocence, but Kimble's brother Ray has serious doubts about him."
8/12/2022 - Erik Schneider: Anyone who is a fan of Orioles or Giants baseball, or ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, knows who announcer Jon Miller is. Before working for the Orioles in the 1980s and 90s, he did NASL soccer for TVS and ABC Sports, including this New York Cosmos-Seattle Sounders game.
The Celebrated Misterk: "The New York Cosmos defeated the Seattle Sounders 2-1 in a North American Soccer League match on July 22, 1978 at the Kingdome in Seattle."
8/15/2022 - Erik Schneider: The New York Cosmos playing the Chicago Sting at Chicago's Wrigley Field, instead of Soldier Field. Perhaps the Sting believed they wouldn't draw well enough to play at the big football stadium.
The Celebrated Misterk: "Highlights of a classic North American Soccer League match between the New York Cosmos and Chicago Sting at Wrigley Field on June 28, 1981."
8/16/2022 - Erik Schneider: I like NASL soccer because both teams play to win and are encouraged to win, instead of playing not to lose. So you see a lot more back and forth and moving ball around, a lot more shots on goal, and more scoring. Goalies really earn their shutouts in the NASL.
Play & Be Dammed: "These are highlights from a 3-2 overtime match in 1978 between the Sting and the Fury. These are Betamax rips that Dave Brett Wasser (www,davebrett.com) did from 30-year-old tapes. So they are not great quality.
There are actually black spots in this tape. I miss at least one of the Fury goals. And I don't know who won because all of overtime is blacked out."
8/17/2022 - Erik Schneider: NASL soccer at Tampa Stadium. You really earn your money playing there in the summer with their heat and humidity. Must have been a great home field advantage for the Rowdies.
The Celebrated Misterk: "Highlights of a North American Soccer League match on June 6, 1976 that saw the Tampa Bay Rowdies defeat their rivals, the New York Cosmos, 5-1 behind a hat trick by Derek Smethurst. One thing you'll notice is the empty end zones, because they were still being constructed in June of 1976 in preparation for the debut of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers later that summer."
8/18/2022 - Erik Schneider: This song by Jayne Mansfield was also performed by her in The Girl Can't Help It. And it's true, Baby Jayne was too hot to handle. Otherwise she probably has a bigger, longer career in Hollywood.
Jayne Mansfield Diamonds To Dust: "RARE Jayne Mansfield Color version of her controversial musical number which made the film had to be censored. Watch Diamonds to Dust on Amazon Prime for free and learn all about the life of Jayne Mansfield."
8/19/2022 - Erik Schneider: English Muffin Diana Dors doesn't have a long list of good movies in America, but only because she was only here for about 5 years. But The Unholy Wife with Rod Steiger, Arthur Franz, and many others, is an excellent crime movie. She was so adorable and yet so bad, which made her so perfect for that wicked role.

Jayne Mansfield Diamonds To Dust: "Jayne Busting out of her dress all over in 1967 Very RARE and only months before she died. Courtesy Live Leak dot com"
8/23/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Babydoll Jayne Mansfield wasn't kicked out of Hollywood, but was told there are only certain parts for her there and that they just wanted her to be a sexy, adorable, comedian, not a serious actress. But since she was a versatile performer, she could do other things besides acting and comedy.
Jayne Mansfield Diamonds To Dust: "Audience Footage of Jayne performing on stage in Las Vegas in 1958"
8/24/2022 - David Downs: "Did they not promote her movies in america on purpose. movies such as the long haul and others were awesome and should have been promoted here also. i think usa was promoting marilyn monroe movies only it seems. just curious about this. i really love dianas movies."
Erik Schneider: "No, she had a public run in, or her loser boyfriend at the time had a public run in with some studio execs and that was it for her. She probably could've come back if she wanted to. Diana had a home in Los Angeles, but stayed out and came back from time to time for interviews and a couple films."
David Downs: "thank you i wasnt sure but curious. i like her movies but sorta hard to find some."
Erik Schneider: "Like The Long Haul. I'm still waiting to see the full version of it. Yield To The Night would be another one."
David Downs: ",, yes indeed,, i want to see yeild to the night and the long haul also. it is on you tube but not full version. i may see about ordering those sometime."
Erik Schneider: Hollywood Babydoll Jayne Mansfield had a lot going for her, not just physically, but personally as well. But she had really bad taste in men, after she broke up with Mickey Hargitay.
Jayne Mansfield Diamonds To Dust: "Jayne return from Vietnam interview 1967"
8/25/2022 - Erik Schneider: Oh, yes, the NASL shootout. I don't like ties either, but I have a problem with an entire soccer game, being decided on what shootout goal, that's only worth 1 point.
The Celebrated Misterk: "The Dallas Tornado defeated the New York Cosmos 2-1 in a shootout in a North American Soccer League match on April 24, 1977 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ."
8/26/2022 - Deana Marie Saint Omer: "She was scuppered by an uncontrollable boyfriend"
Erik Schneider: "Dennis Hamilton?"
Deanna Marie Saint Omer: "yes I think so, he we t ballistic at her Hollywood pool party, even dragged her into the pool."
Erik Schneider: "Right, the wannabe London/Hollywood agent, who was living off of her, but not doing anything for her."
I love the American version of outdoor soccer, which is what the NASL gave us. You really get to see how good the goalies and defenses are, when the action is back and forth and the goalie actually has to deal with shots on goal.
ABC Sports announcer Jim McKay with the call of the game, from Tampa Stadium.
The Celebrated Misterk: "The Tampa Bay Rowdies defeated the New York Cosmos 3-2 in a North American Soccer League match on May 12, 1979 at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, Florida."
8/29/2022 - Erik Schneider: Jim McKay covering this game for ABC Sports. One of my favorite sports announcers and one of the better American soccer announcers as well.
The Celebrated Misterk: "Philadelphia Fury play exciting, attacking soccer in the first half of the second game of the 1979 North American Soccer League American Soccer Conference semi-final, but cannot manage a goal. Rodney Marsh eventually scored the lone goal in the match as Tampa Bay advanced. The legendary Jim McKay does play-by-play; well-known soccer curmudgeon Paul Gardner provides commentary."
8/30/2022 - Erik Schneider: Announcer Jon Miller before he became the radio announcer for the Orioles in the 1980s and 90s, and then later ESPN and the San Francisco Giants, called NASL soccer for TVS.

9/01/2022 - Erik Schneider: If you are familiar with the old Pittsburgh Stingers of the old CISL, you know who the Tampa Bay Rowdies uniforms look like. But the Rowdies were a much better soccer franchise than the Stingers, a lot more successful.
The Celebrated Misterk: "The Tampa Bay Rowdies drilled the Atlanta Chiefs, 6-0, in a North American Soccer League match on August 12, 1981 at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, Florida."
9/02/2022 - Erik Schneider: This could've been one of the better NASL rivalries or MLS rivalries, when you are talking about Los Angeles and San Jose.
The Celebrated Misterk: "The Los Angeles Aztecs defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 4-2 in a North American Soccer League match on July 9, 1978 at Spartan Stadium in San Jose."
9/06/2022 - Erik Schneider: Without the leg injury, Pedro Guerrero is in the Hall of Fame today. Loved to have seen him with Mike Marshall, Kirk Gibson, and Eddie Murray, with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1980s and early 90s. He was a great all around power hitter and one of the best of his era.
Seth Poho: "LA's Pedro Guerrero hits home run #14 off Eric Show."
9/07/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Los Angeles Dodgers finally breaking through and beating the New York Yankees in the World Series. Last time the Yankees would even make the postseason, until 1995.
MLB: "10/28/81: Outfielder Pedro Guerrero goes 3-for-5 with five RBIs as the Dodgers rout the Yankees in Game 6."
9/08/2022 - Erik Schneider: As an Orioles fan, as well as a broader MLB fan, I love Jim Palmer as a baseball analyst. He's one of the best. And Al Michaels when he was doing baseball for ABC Sports, was one of the best baseball announcers in the business.
MLB: "10/25/81: The Dodgers take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 7th after Pedro Guerrero and Steve Yeager hit back-to-back homers off Ron Guidry."
9/09/2022 - Erik Schneider: The San Diego Padres 1st winning season was in 1978. They wouldn't have another one until 1984, when they won their 1st divisional championship. So 1984 was a great year for the Padres.

Marpul: "Footage from San Diego's KFMB News 8 A Year in Review. The San Diego Padres 1984 victory Vs. The Chicago Cubs.... Cubbusters!!! HA."
9/12/2022 - Erik Schneider: Gary Thorne is a great baseball and hockey announcer. Joe Morgan might be the best 2B and MLB analyst ever. And here's a chance to see Glenn Davis when he was one of the most productive power-hitters in MLB.
This Is Where You Find Baseball: "This is the only portion of this game available from us: a 23-minute segment of an ABC Thursday Night Baseball telecast of the Padres and Astros, June 8, 1989."
9/13/2022 - Erik Schneider: It depends on your personal. If you have pass rushers up front on your DL, like the Cowboys of the 90s, Redskins of the 80s, or Rams and Steelers of the 70s, you don't have to blitz that much. But if you play a 3-4 or you don't have the pass rushers on your DL, you are going to have to blitz or red dog more, to get consistent pressure on the QB.
John Schonacher: "Del Rio called up a lot of blitzes on Sunday. 2 official sacks and 2 unofficial with international grounding penalties and 10 QB hits. That’s pretty good.
I’m under no delusion that this defense is a top 10 squad at the moment. If we didn’t give the Jaguars 3 turnovers and a gift wrapped TD it would not have been a close game.
Would you prefer less blitzing, rush 4 and allow QB’s to be comfortable in the pocket or continue with the aggressive play calling we saw Sunday?
I prefer getting to the QB asap. Send it Del Rio"
Erik Schneider: From 1984-92, the Phillies had like 2 winning seasons and not much to cheer about. But this huge comeback against the Dodgers in 1990, was one of those games.
Baseball Days of Yore: "Just when you think it's over....20 years later."
9/14/2022 - Erik Schneider: Terry Mulholland was a very inconsistent, journeyman pitcher. But when he was good, he was very good, both as a starter and reliever.

9/16/2022 - Erik Schneider: This is the one Diana Dors film that I haven't seen yet, that I really want to so see. But it isn't available in America yet. If you are familiar with The Unholy Wife with Diana Dors and Rod Steiger, this movie I believe is similar to that, at least from what I've read about it.
Diana Dors The Legacy: "Diana Dors as Mary Hilton in J. Lee Thompson's film "Yield To The Night". If there was any doubts about Diana's acting prowess, then her turn as Mary Hilton would confirm her credentials as a 'serious actress'."
9/19/2022 - Erik Schneider: English Muffin Diana Dors starring in I Married a Woman, from 1958. Not her best film in America, but her funniest. I think she was a great comedian, a great dramatic/comedy actress, who could do both genres in the same film or TV show, which made her perfect for Alfred Hitchcock. She was great at using comedy to make serious points and talk about serious subjects. Which is what you see on shows like MASH or All in The Family.
Diana Dors The Legacy: "Shouting Lager, Lager.....": Diana Dors as Janice Blake Briggs in Hal Kanter's "I Married A Woman". Diana's leading man in the film was US TV star George Gobel. Diana's character was once "Miss Luxemberg" one of the advertising models for Luxemberg Pilsner."
Omar Montgomery: "She was the British answer to marylin Monroe and was Richard Dawson first wife"
Erik Schneider: "No. She actually had a lot more in common with Shelly Winters, then Marilyn Monroe. At least as far as talent, personality, intelligence, humor. The comparison with Marilyn, is just physical."
9/20-2022 - Erik Schneider: There are two Diana Dors British movies that I want to see: The Long Haul, I haven't seen the full version of that film, missing about 10 minutes or so and Yield To The Night. Diana really was the English Muffin in The Long Haul. She was so precious and innocent (or, so she appeared) even though she was trying to have an affair with a married man, who kept trying to back her away, without telling her to go away.
Diana Dors The Legacy: "Do Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?......Yes They Do!": The Glorious Diana Dors at most "Blonde Bombshell" in this stunning publicity photograph for the film, "The Long Haul".
We had an amazing response to our last post of Diana at Orchard Manor. It would be amazing for this photo to get over 500 Likes!
Make sure you've got it in your diary that the documentary, "Diana Dors: Britain's Blonde Bombshell" will be shown on Channel 5 at 9pm. Among those talking about Diana are Bonnie Langford, Jess Conrad, Madeline Smith and Diana's son Gary."
9/21/2022 - Erik Schneider: My favorite Charlie's Angel, has always been Jacklyn Smith. (Or Baby Jackie, as I like to call her) Because yes, she's drop-dead gorgeous and absolutely adorable, but she kicks ass as well.
Kelly Garrett (played by Jaclyn Smith) is truly one of the first independent women in Hollywood, who broke so many stereotypes about what American women are supposed to be like . And if there is one role to be remembered for in Hollywood, you can do a helluva lot worst than Kelly Garrett.
Jaclyn Smith: "For Fall I love dusty animal prints like the one I’m wearing for my new collection! This blouse is available to purchase now on Nordstrom Rack"
9/23/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Los Angeles Rams playing the Minnesota Vikings, at Bloomington Metropolitan Stadium, in 1974, for the NFC Championship. Rams DE Jack Youngblood and Vikings QB Fran Tarkenton in the photo. Two of the best players from the 1970s, with Youngblood being one of the best pass rushers, if not the best pass rusher of the 1970s. Tarkenton, probably only Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw were better QB's during that decade.
Andrew Kang: "Los Angeles Rams defensive end Jack Youngblood looks to block a pass attempt by Minnesota Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton on Dec. 29, 1974. A 7-time Pro Bowl Hall of Famer, Youngblood turned 65...
9/26/2022 - Erik Schneider: Diana Frank and yes, a younger Telly Savalas guess-starring on ABC's The Fugitive, in 1964. Telly isn't as funny as he usually is on this show, but he's very good. And she's absolutely wicked, but you wouldn't know that from her adorable disposition.

9/27/2022 - Erik Schneider: Programming note: attention, all you classic TV fans, @H&I will be showing ABC's Vegas, with Robert Urich, Tony Curtis, and a lot of other great people everyday Tuesday afternoon. It's one of those great, funny, private shows from the 1970s and 80s. It only had two seasons, but Urich landed Spencer For Hire from ABC, later on in the 80s, after Vegas went off the air. I'm DVR the episodes today and hopefully will see a few tonight.

Watching ABC's Vegas on @H&I. Robert Urich's 1st private eye show before Spenser For Hire.
9/28/2022 - Erik Schneider: Saw Hannie Caulder a few weeks ago, again. I don't think it's a great movie, but I think Raquel Welch is great in it and plays the female badass character perfectly. And besides, I love Robert Culp and she's a Goddess, so there's plenty of reasons for me to watch it.
IMDB: "After she is raped and her husband murdered, a woman hires a bounty hunter to instruct her in the use of a gun so she can get her revenge on the three outlaws responsible."
9/29/2022 - Erik Schneider: Part of the cast from Burt Kennedy's Hannie Caulder. Actually, just the bad guys and the red-hot Raquel Welch.
The Telegraph: "Burt Kennedy’s 1971 film, plagued by fighting on-set, promoted its star as a feminist heroine while trading shamelessly on her sex appeal.
Last month, an elegant elderly woman caused a paparazzi frenzy as she left an auction house in Beverly Hills. It was Raquel Welch, now 81 and photographed in public for the first time in two years, looking – one tabloid noted – “casual in a white top, black pants and platform...
9/30/2022 - Erik Schneider: This is not only one of the most famous scenes in Hannie Caulder (1971) but it's one of the most famous scenes in Raquel Welch's career, with her taking a bath in that film. The Lizard King Jim Morrison would've loved the brown leather jeans that Raquel wore in this film.
Alan Seader: "People forget She has one of Hollywoods Highest, IQ's."
Erik Schneider: "They say that Jayne Mansfield as well. So take that for what it's worth."
Cathryn Paradise: "Trying to get her leather pants to fit."
Erik Schneider: "Yeah, that's an issue with skinny jeans."
10/03/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Kansas City Bomber with Hollywood Goddess Raquel Welch. Roller derby was a fairly popular sport in the 1970s, or at least it was around, sort of like indoor soccer. I don't think this is a great movie, but again Raquel plays an adorable badass, that you should never mess with. And I like Kevin McCarthy (the actor, not politician) a lot as well.
IMDB: "Roller derby skater K.C. Carr (Raquel Welch) tries to balance her desire for a happy personal life and her dreams of stardom."
10/04/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Raquel Welch, in Kansas City Bomber. Doesn't she look just too cute and sweet, to be kicking ass in roller derby?
Alamy: "RAQUEL WELCH, KANSAS CITY BOMBER, 1972"
10/05/2022 - Erik Schneider: Now that's what I call an elbow smash (for all you old school wrestling fans) that Raquel Welch delivers in Kansas City Bomber. Roller derby is definitely not a sport for golfers and chess players.
10/06/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Wild Party with James Coco, and Raquel Welch, and a lot of other people. This is another good, funny, entertaining, but not great Raquel Welch film. Which seems to be the main pattern in her movie career. She's a great comedic actress and even comedian, but I'm not sure you can credibly say she's ever been in a great film. James Coco is the real star in this film. He's absolutely hilarious and was a great comedic actor.
Amazon: "The highly celebratedand OscarÂ(r)-nominated*Ismail Merchant and James Ivory swing back to Hollywood's heyday to tell this "dazzling" (The Hollywood Reporter) story of unchecked egotism and desperation. Featuring a "bravura" (Playboy) performance by OscarÂ(r) nominee** James Coco, and a "genuinely touching" (Time) turn by Raquel Welch, The Wild Party is a bash people will be talking about for years! 1920s Hollywood. Talkies have become the rage, but silent film star Jolly Grimm (Coco) believes he still has a future. Ready to premiere his latest opus, a picture in which he's invested his entire fortune, Grimm throws a party at his mansion. But when his film is tepidly received and his gal (Welch) sneaks off with an up-and-coming star, Grimm is forced to face a horrible truth about himself one that may lead to deadly consequences! *Merchant: Best Picture, The Remains of the Day (with Mike Nichols, John Calley) (1993); Best Picture, Howards End (1992); Best Picture, A Room With a View (1986); ShortSubjectLive Action, The Creation of Woman (with Charles F. Schwep) (1960);Ivory: Director, The Remains of the Day (1993); Director, Howards End (1992); Director, A Room With a View (1986) **1981: Supporting Actor, Only When I Laugh"
10/07/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Raquel Welch and actor James Coco in The Wild Party. The only thing I don't like about Raquel in this film, is her hair. I'm used to seeing her long, red-hot, red hair, which goes perfectly, with her gorgeous baby face.
IMDB: "With the arrival of talking pictures, a silent film comedian (a Fatty Arbuckle-type) throws a lavish party to try and save his failing career. His plan is to release one last, great silent epic. In HD."
Baron Peter von Andres: "As for great films starring Raquel Welch, THE THREE MUSKETEERS (1973) and its immediate sequel THE FOUR MUSKETEERS (1974) are splendid entertainment that do justice to the original sprawling Dumas novel."
Erik Schneider: "We simply disagree on that."
David Sommer: "The hair was perfect for the era of this film. She never had red hair. It was more chestnut brown and sometimes with blonde highlights. And she has anything other than a "baby face." She's all woman with stunning refined features and high cheekbones. Maybe you're thinking about Ann Margret?"
Erik Schneider: "Nah, she did had red hair in a lot of her films. Probably got it from her mother. And she was absolutely baby face, adorable."
10/08/2022 - Erik Schneider: "Raquel had brown hair when she was young. When she was older making films it was dyed many different colors. Here is a child photo...
Erik Schneider: "All you have to do is look at the photos in this group of Raquel and you'll see her with red hair. But hey, if you want to spend your Saturday arguing about hair color, I'll leave you alone with that."
10/10/2022 - Erik Schneider: David Janssen and Diana Frank on ABC's The Fugitive in 1964. Diana perhaps doesn't play a bad girl on this episode, but certainly a very naughty girl, who tries to use men like Richard Kimble.
IMDB: "Kimble works as lifeguard for a hotel casino owner whose wild, sexy adult daughter makes unwanted advances toward him to get back at her father."
10/11/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hit and Run from 1957, with Vince Edwards, Cleo Moore, and Hugo Haas. This movie is sort of crime drama, mixed in with funny soap opera. Hugo Haas is pretty funny in it, even though he plays the guy who is supposedly murdered in the film, but then reappears pretending to be his twin brother, having everyone fooled, including his wife. Frank (played by Vince Edwards) and Julie (played by Cleo Moore) are not what you would call professional killers. He's basically a drifter and she's a gold digger.
TCM: "Illicit lovers arrange a fatal accident for the woman's husband."
10/12/2022 - Erik Schneider: The 3 main players from Hit & Run: Vince Edwards, Cleo Moore, and Hugo Haas, who also directed the film. Not a great movie, but Hugo was a very funny actor/director. Cleo is about as adorable as any Hollywood actress that you'll ever see. She reminds me of Jayne Mansfield. And Vince Edwards plays the bad guy well.
Vintage 45: "Director-Producer-Screenwriter Hugo Haas plays a wealthy older man who marries a younger woman played by his favorite blonde actress Cleo Moore. Vince “Ben Casey” Edwards is a studly mechanic who works for Haas. It’s a sleepy B movie. Haas and Moore have done better.
Gus Hilmer (Hugo Haas) owns a gas station, a large junkyard and some real estate. When he goes out drinking he takes his mechanic Frankie (Vince Edwards) with him to look out for him. One night in a club Gus sends Frankie into a dressing room to ask Julie (Cleo Moore) one of the chorus girls to have a drink with him. She finally says okay. After Gus gets high he proposes to her. It’s not taken seriously…..until their wedding.
Frankie thinks Julie is just after Gus’s money and Gus can feel the tension between the two. Frankie says he’s quitting. One night Gus gets drunk at a meeting of the Anti-Superstition Club after he’s been elected President. Back at the gas station where they all live Frankie is blasting an Ella Mae Morse song called “What Good Will It Do Me?” Julie’s had enough and demands he turn it off. They fight over the radio and Frankie makes his move. She storms out...
10/14/2022 - Erik Schneider: For 2 years in the 1970s, the Philadelphia Flyers were the best team in the NHL. But they never got back to that since.
The Flyers celebrating their 1974 Stanley Cup Championship at the Philadelphia Spectrum.
10/17/2022 - Erik Schneider: Cam Neely was the classic NHL power forward. Which might be why he had so many injuries because he was so physical. But he wasn't just a great goal scorer. Good Rangers-Bruins game at the old Boston Garden.
Sports Odyssey: "Sam Rosen & John Davidson (MSG Network)"
10/18/2022 - Erik Schneider: When the Wayne Gretzky LA King's offense was rolling, they could play and perhaps beat everyone in the NHL, because they had so many weapons on offense and moved the puck very well. But as you see in this video, when their offense wasn't rolling, they could fall behind against anyone, because their defense was never very good. The Kings with a great comeback against the Bruins, at the Boston Garden.
XT Habs 789: "1990/03/17 Highlights from Boston Garden - The Kings overcome a 4-1 deficit in the 3rd period to beat the Bruins 5-4, Wayne Gretzky scores the winning goal (Goalies: Ron Scott & Reggie Lemelin)"
10/19/2022 - Erik Schneider: Pretty impressive to be outshot 43-18 and only lose by 2 goals. That means your goalie is very busy and playing a great game, just to keep his team in the game.
Skif Usya: "Playing their fifth game in nine nights with six regulars out of the lineup, the Blackhawks are outshot 43-18 on their home ice and suffocated by the Bruins, 4-2. The play of Darren Pang keeps his team in the game up to the end."
10/20/2022 - Erik Schneider: Blackhawks goalie Bob Mason, was several goalies that the Capitals went through in the mid and late 1980s. He was basically Pete Peters backup in Washington. Good matchup with the defending Eastern Conference champion Flyers, against the Blackhawks.
Skif Usya: "Both teams were playing their third game of the season, in four nights. Ron Hextall's gratuitous chop at Kent Nilsson the previous spring meant that the Flyers began the 1987-88 season with Mark Laforest (and Wendell Young) in goal. The Blackhawks countered with prized free agent signing Bob Mason between the pipes. Flyers' television broadcast features Gene Hart and Bobby Taylor with play-by-play and color commentary, respectively."
10/21/2022 - Erik Schneider: Capitals defender Rod Langway, picking the perfect time to get his 1st goal of that season, at the Capital Centre.
10/23/2022 - Erik Schneider: Cincinnati Bengals QB Ken Anderson, I believe is the best NFL QB whose currently eligible for the Hall of Fame, whose not in there. He was as good or better than several QB's who are currently there, guys he played against, like Dan Fouts and Bob Griese and should've been in the HOF 20-25 years ago. You are talking about one of the most accurate and highest rated QB's of all-time, who played for several losing and mediocre teams in the 1970s and 80s in Cincinnati and yet he still won a lot of games and put up great numbers.
Jim Vanderlans: "Ken Anderson led the Cincinnati Bengals to a 10-3 record in 1975 as he threw for 3,169 yards with 21 TDs and only 11 interceptions."
10/24/2022 - Erik Schneider: Bobby Carpenter had an interesting NHL career. He goes from being a goal scorer with the Capitals during his 1st seven seasons, to being a defensive forward for the rest of his career.
Bobby Carpenter against the Long Island Islanders (as I call them) at the Capital Centre.
Washington Capitals: "The Caps honor the "Can't-Miss Kid," Bobby Carpenter, one of the 40 Greatest Caps."
10/25/2022 - Erik Schneider: Growing up as a Capitals fan in the 1980s and early 90s, I always saw Kevin Hatcher as a power forward playing defender. I never saw him a great defender, but a good offensive player. Capitals defenders Kevin Hatcher and Rod Langway at the Capital Centre.
Washington Capitals: "The Caps honor Kevin Hatcher, one of the 40 Greatest Caps, as part of the Caps 40th anniversary."
10/26/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Capitals won the Patrick Division regular season title in 1989. But in 1990, they won the Patrick Division divisional series and moved on to the Eastern Finals. Interesting that Mike Liut was in goalie for this game and not Pete Peters.
Beach Timko: "Druce is on the loose!"
10/27/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Capitals didn't become consistent winners and a playoff team, until they traded for Rod Langway, drafted Mike Gartner, Bob Carpenter, and others. I wasn't a fan of Dave Polin as a general manager growing up as a Capitals fan in the 1980s and early 80s, but he created the Washington Capitals during the 80s. And they've been consistent winners and a playoff team ever since, including a downtown Washington arena, two conference championships, and a Stanley Cup.
I believe this photo was taken at the Capital Centre, but I'm not sure.
JJ Governor Carrier: "Canadiens deal Langway to Washington in 1982 in six-player swap, change NHL history for the better."
10/28/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Stella Stevens appearing in Cleopatra Jones, in 1975. I don't think it's a very good movie (glad it's only 90 minutes) but I like her in everything. She's so cute and funny. Reminds me of Barbara Eden.
Stella Stevens: "The seductive villainess, The Dragon Lady, in CLEOPATRA JONES AND THE CASINO OF GOLD (1975)"
10/30/2022 - Erik Schneider: For me, at least, Fran Tarkenton is one of the top 10-15 QB's of all-time. I know he didn't win a Super Bowl and didn't play well in the Super Bowl's, but he won 3 conference championships and owned most of the NFL passing records when he retired in 1979. And before going back to Minnesota in 1973 to play for the Vikings, he put up excellent numbers and won some games for the New York Giants. Accomplishing all of this being only 5'10-5'11 and weighing maybe 180 pounds and yet he still had an excellent career.

10/31/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Erin Gray making an appearance on ABC's Vega$ in 1980. She actually plays the killer in this episode, even though she comes off as too cute to step on a cockroach. She also looks adorable in the nurses uniform that she wears in one scene.

11/02/2022 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Jill St. John and stud Robert Urich, on ABC's Vega$ in 1980. I've always loved women who are really cute and funny, who get to the point, with a sharp wit. And Jill St. John has always had that. Plus, being tall, drop-dead gorgeous, and sexy, doesn't hurt her either.

11/03/2022 - Erik Schneider: I hate to say this as a Redskins fan, but New York Giants QB Phill Simms would have my vote for the Hall of Fame. He's one of the best big game and cold weather QB's of the 1980s. Two-time Super Bowl champion, including MYP of Super Bowl 21. And doing all these things without a lot of great talent on offense around him.
Jim Vanderlans: "Happy 67th Birthday to Phil Simms!

Erik Schneider: Actor Dick Sargent and Hollywood Goddess Priscilla Barnes appearing on ABC's Vega$, in 1980.
I've always liked Dick Sargent because he's tall and funny and even though he generally plays good, likable characters, he plays the bad guy pretty well too.
This was the year right before Priscilla Barnes landed the role as Terri on Three's Company. I guess ABC Entertainment liked her and decided to bring her back, which is a damn good thing, because that show wouldn't have been as good without her.
ShareTV: "Summary: A $2,500/night call girl is shot by her pimp, Phil, Dick Sargent. Meanwhile Dan is falling in love with Pam, Priscilla Barnes. Unbeknownst to Dan, she is one of Phil's girls named Satin @$5,000/night. Dan's running headlong into heartbreak."
11/04/2022 - Erik Schneider: When I was growing up and watching NFL football in the 1980s, my two favorite Redskins defensive players, were Dexter Manley and Dave Butz. I mean you could argue that Big Butz was the Redskins best all around defensive lineman, if not defensive player, during the Joe Gibbs era. He was almost impossible to block. Butz is a key link to the Redskins glory years and was a member of their 1st 2 Super Bowl championship teams. Losing him is a huge lost.
Brian Mitchell: "Truly saddened over the loss of Washington Legend Dave Butz and 2x Super Bowl champion, member of our Ring of Fame and 90 Greatest list. Sending my deepest condolences to Dave's family and friends."
Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Lindsey Bloom, played Rocket on the third and final season of ABC's Vega$. If the name sounds familiar, she also played Mike Hammer's secretary in, well, Mike Hammer on CBS.

11/05/2022 - Erik Schneider: Coach Joe Gibbs with a nice thoughts about Dave Butz.
Joe Gibbs: "I just heard the terrible news that Dave Butz has passed away.
I can look back and remember several things about Dave, one being his very unusual pregame meal - that included a chocolate malt- and also, his scarred and pitted football helmet that he took great pride in wearing.
Dave played an instrumental role for 14 years with our Redskins. He played what I consider to be one of the most physically demanding positions in football--defensive tackle. Dave had an amazing ability to defeat offensive blocking schemes. He played a key role in our winning traditions that included two Super Bowl wins.
I will be praying for the family."
11/06/2022 - I've always thought that English Muffin Diana Dors had a great sense of humor and comedic timing. Her interviews both British and American, as well as TV appearances, are classic and perhaps examples of that.
Diana Dors The Legacy: "November 5th, 2022 marks the 52nd anniversary of "Queenies Castle". Diana made her debut as Queenie Shepherd, the uncrowned ‘Queen’ of the Northern housing estate where she and her brother-in-law and three sons ruled the roost, in the episode, 'We Humbly Beseech'.
The premise of the TV series has Queenie, as the acknowledged and undisputed boss of the Buckingham Flats estate. It is her domain, her territory, her empire. However, the absence of her prince consort Lionel Shepherd doesn’t leave her unprotected, Queenie has the four Shepherd boys.
Their names which are known to the Buckingham Flats police station are Jack Shepherd, dealer (Tony Caunter); Bunny Shepherd, freelance van driver (Brian Marshall); Raymond Shepherd, itinerant labourer (Freddie Fletcher) and Douglas Fairbanks Shepherd, Unemployed (Barrie Rutter). They all live together in Queenies council flat, where Jack, her brother-in-law, is an illegal lodger.
The highly popular TV comedy series was a thundering success with the public and introduced future stars of Coronation Street, including Bryan Mosely, Jill Summers, Roy Barraclough and Lynne Perrie as Mrs. Petty owner of the local Patisserie and Secretary of the Residents Association.
The series featured a high calibre of guest stars including Kathy Staff, David Lodge, Charles Lloyd Pack, Claire Davenport and John Junkin. The series was written especially for Diana Dors in mind by Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall."
11/07/2022 - Erik Schneider: I think Dave Parker is perhaps the best all around MLB player, who'll never be in the Hall of Fame. Definitely one of the best all around players on his generation, a great 5-tool player. But he doesn't have the all around career numbers that you need to get in the HOF.
Tony McCune: "For fans of The Cobra.
In his only season with the Milwaukee Brewers, 1990, Dave Parker, at age 39, hit 21 home runs and drove in 92.
He was also a member of the American LeagueAll Star team."
Erik Schneider: The New York Express playing the Chicago Sting, at the Rosemont Horizon in 1986. The MISL tried to expand with multiple franchises in New York in the 1980s and the Express are one of the franchises that failed.
Joey Teefizz: "MISL Soccer at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago. Frank Klopas with a good game...Shep Messing Halftime Interview"
11/08/2022 - Erik Schneider: I know I'm bias here as a Redskins fan, but if the Redskins had a healthy Sonny Jurgenson for Super Bowl 7 against the Miami Dolphins, they would've beaten the Dolphins in that game, even though the Dolphins entered that game at 16-0.
Redskins QB Billy Kilmer misses two scoring opportunities in the red zone against the Dolphins and they missed a short field goal in that game. With a healthy Sonny playing that game instead of Billy, he hits Jerry Smith for at least 1 TD in that game.
Charles Feist: "Sonny Jurgenson leaves the field after tearing his Achilles Tendon in 1972 against the Giants."
Erik Schneider: Philadelphia Phillies and NFL Films announcer Harry Kalas, calling this game for the Fever for this game, at the Cincinnati Riverfront Coliseum. One of the best voices in all of sports.
Joey Teefizz: "This is the first home game of the Cincinnati Kids inaugural and only season during the MISL's first year in existence. This is only the first 9 minutes of the game found as a bonus piece on the New Kids in Town segement to promote the Kids to the Cincinnati market."
11/09/2022 - Erik Schneider: Maybe this is why the Express failed in New York: they weren't good and lost a lot. Another Chicago Sting game at the Rosemont Horizon, instead of the Chicago Stadium.
Jay Sarajevo: "The 0-8 New York Express play the Chicago Sting at the Rosemont Horizon. Team co-owner Shep Messing in goal for the Express (making some snappy saves in the first quarter) and Victor Nogueira in goal for the Sting. Only part of the 1st quarter here. The Sting went on to win 7-2 with Whyte and Pesa scoring goals for New York. Date of game was Dec 19, 1986"
11/10/2022 - Erik Schneider: 1975 is an interesting season for both the Minnesota Vikings and Green Packers. 1975 is actually the best, all around, Vikings team. They had the best offense, at least in the NFC and still had a great defense. And yet they didn't even get to the NFC Championship, let alone the Super Bowl. They were upset by the Dallas Cowboys at home, in the NFC Divisional Playoff. 1975 was also Bart Starr's 1st season as the Packers head coach.
Erik Schneider: In an era that was dominated by defenses and the running game in the NFL, WR John Jefferson was a great, big wide receiver, who consistently got open and made big plays. He also played for the Redskins when they won the NFC in 1972 and was a member of the 1970 Baltimore Colts Super Bowl championship team.

Erik Schneider: Milwaukee-Chicago should've been a great MISL rivalry just because of how close these two cities are and how popular soccer is in these two big cities. But the Sting and Power already struggled to draw fans in Chicago. The Wave were one of the most successful franchises in all of professional, major league, indoor soccer. Good game at the Rosemont Horizon.
Michael James: "Broadcast on Milwaukee's Channel 18 live from the (then) Rosemont Horizon in front of a very Chicago-like crowd of 2,761. This is Johan Aarnio's first season as Wave head coach and will result in the Wave's second-ever playoff appearance."
11/11/2022 - Erik Schneider: Minnesota Vikings DE Carl Eller is definitely one of the best DE's of all-time. 133 sacks elected to the HOF in 2004. But Lyle Alzado who played for the Broncos, Browns, Raiders, I'm wondering if he would be in the HOF today, if it wasn't for the steroids. Both of these players were great pass rushers, two of the best ever, both over 100 sacks in their careers.
NFL Best Players: "While this 1975 Topps card proclaims the Vikings Carl Eller and Broncos Lyle Alzado as All Pros from the 1974 season, I can't find where either player was actually bestowed with the honor that season. Carl Eller did make the 2nd-team Pro Bowl and Alzado was unofficially credited with 9 sacks though."
Erik Schneider: I believe if the NASL New York Cosmos managed to stay in business during the 1980s, the MISL Cosmos would've worked there as well and perhaps playing downtown at Madison Square Garden, instead out in New Jersey. Indoor soccer should work both in New York and Los Angeles, because of how great both markets are for soccer. But it has never worked in either market.Good game at the Great Western Forum.

11/12/2022 - Erik Schneider: When the Atlanta Falcons were good, at least on offense in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Steve Bartkowski was not just a Pro Bowl caliber QB, but one of the best QB's in the NFL. But after the strike shortened season of 1982, the Falcons fire head coach Leeman Bennett and their defense and offense collapsed and Bart started getting hurt and taking a lot of punishment in Atlanta. 11/13/2022 - Erik Schneider: Tommy McDonald is one of the best big play, as well as little receivers ever in the NFL. Catching 50, 60, passes a year in the 1950s and 60s, when he's only 5'9, 160 pounds or so, during 12-14 game seasons, in an era that was dominated by defense, most of the teams in the league ran the ball 60% of the time, or more. Here he is against the Cleveland Browns at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Phil Boyd: "In 1961 had 64 catches and a league-high 1164 yards and 13 touchdown catches.
Jim Brown (#32) and Bobby Mitchell (#49) watch from the sidelines."
11/14/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Chicago Bears played the Los Angeles Raiders, in an inter-conference game in 1987. 87 was Walter Payton's last season with the Bears and in the NFL. And the Raiders honored Payton during that game. The greatest all around RB ever.
Jim Vanderlans: "The records Walter Payton held at the time of his retirement included 16,726 total yards, 10 seasons with 1,000 or more yards rushing, 275 yards rushing in one game against Minnesota (1977), 77 games with more than 100 yards rushing, and 110 rushing touchdowns.
Payton had 4,368 combined net attempts and accounted for 21,803 combined net yards. He also scored an impressive 750 points on 125 touchdowns."
Erik Schneider: The Warthogs first season was also the year that I graduated high school in 1994 and just starting to get into indoor soccer. So I remember them fairly well. The Warthogs vs the Indianapolis Twisters, at the Market Square Arena.
The Celebrated Misterk: "Highlights of a Continental Indoor Soccer League match from August 22, 1997 between the Washington Warthogs and Indiana Twisters at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis."
11/15/2022 - Erik Schneider: I was starting to get into indoor soccer when the Warthogs came to Washington in 1994. I believe they made the CISL Playoffs all 4 seasons that they were here and were fun to watch offensively.
The Celebrated Misterk: "Highlights of the first home game in the short history of the Indianapolis Twisters of the Continental Indoor soccer League. The Twisters lost 7-6 in overtime to the Washington Warthogs at Market Square Arena and finished 10-18 in their first year in the CISL."
11/16/2022 - Erik Schneider: Major league pro indoor soccer has never caught on in Philadelphia. But the Spirit/Blast have always been fairly popular in Baltimore. MISL soccer at the Baltimore Civic Arena.
Baltimore Blast: "The Blast take on the Fever in the home opener from the 1981-82 season."
11/17/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Miami Dolphins probably should've played better in Super Bowl 6. But the 1971 Cowboys were about as perfect as a team both offensively and defensively, led by QB Roger Staubach, that it's easy to see how they could dominate a great team like Don Shula's Dolphins.
Bill Ailes: "Roger Staubach"
11/18/2022 - Erik Schneider: QB Bart Starr leading the Green Bay Packers against the San Francisco 49ers in 1962. You put together a list of the best big game QB's ever in the NFL, Bart Starr would be on that list.
This game was played at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. If the 49ers just renovated that stadium, instead of moving into Candlestick Park, which was built just for baseball, the City of San Francisco would've had two of the best looking stadiums in America. And maybe 49ers are still playing at Kezar today, instead of out in Santa Clara. And the Giants are still playing at Candlestick.
Packerville: "We’re pretty sure that most of our readers wouldn’t have stumbled across this gallery of classic Sports Illustrated photos featuring the Green Bay Packers. So, we’re bringing it to you over here at the Packerville blog. All captions are from the magazine as well. Above, Vince Lombardi shares a moment with Jerry Kramer, who carried the coach off the field after their 33-14 Super Bowl II win against the Raiders. 11/19/2022 - Erik Schneider: Terry Metcalf was the classic hybrid player in NFL. He's was a halfback, with the speed and receiving ability of a good receiver. His son Eric was the exact same way. On any team where he was the feature runner and best receiver on a team that had a good passing game, he would be real threat to carry the ball 200 plus times, catch 70-80 passes and run and receive for a 1000 yards. He was also a great kick returner. Great player on some pretty mediocre, but good offensive St. Louis Cardinal teams in the 1970s.

Erik Schneider: The 1979 St. Louis Cardinals were 5-11 in the NFC East. Jim Hart when he played for teams, or at least teams with a good offense, he was a great QB. He read defenses very well, had a good arm, and was accurate. But he only played for 7 winning seasons and 3 playoff teams, in his 18 years with the Cardinals. Similar to Dan Fouts who was a great QB, for a lot of bad and losing San Diego Charger teams.
Jim Vanderlans: "November 18, 1979 - Jim Hart in action as the Cardinals take on the Eagles at Veterans Stadium."
11/20/2022 - Erik Schneider: Darryl Strawberry was a great 4-5-tool player. He struck out too much and swung for the fences too much, to ever hit for a high average. But he was a great power-hitter, ran very well, good arm, and was a good outfielder. Without the narcotics, he's in the Hall of Fame today
Retro Baseball: "In 1983, Darryl Strawberry hit twenty-six home runs and collected seventy-four RBI, tops amongst all National League rookies. He swiped nineteen bases, had four two-homer games, and an 11-game hitting streak. When the season ended, the Baseball Writers Association of American voted him (18-of-24 first place votes) the National League Rookie of the Year — the first non-pitcher in Mets history to receive the honor."
11/21/2022 - Erik Schneider: For anyone who likes seeing NFL Hall of Famers together, I think you might like Franco Harris and Walter Payton. The Chicago Bears played the Seattle Seahawks in an inter-conference game in 1984, at the Seattle Kingdome. Franco spent his last season in Seattle, because the Pittsburgh Steelers were rebuilding.

11/22/2022 - Erik Schneider: Walter Payton going for the rushing record in 1984, as the New Orleans Saints came to Soldier Field to play the Bears.
This is one game that I would love for either NFL Network or YouTube to make available. A lot of people look at the Saints pre-Jim Mora as the Aints and nothing both losers. But they just missed the NFC Playoffs in 1979, 82, and 83. They were 7-9 in 1984, with the 4th ranked defense. They had plenty of talent back then, including LB Sam Mills who is 51 in this photo. As well as Rickey Jackson, and good talent upfront. So this was a good matchup for the Bears at home.

11/23/2022 - Erik Schneider: Archie Manning leading the New Orleans Saints against the Cleveland Browns, in 1981.
I would've loved to have seen how good Archie could've been, if he could've just played for a winning team for 5-6 years. Maybe if Hank Stram was his head coach from season 1 in New Orleans or Ted Nolan, he probably gets that opportunity. But the Saints two best seasons with Archie, were 78 and 79, when they were 7-9 and 8-8. But they never built off of that.

12/05/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Detroit Pistons probably had the better all around team in 1984. They had more players that could hurt offensively, including Isiah Thomas. But the New York Knicks had Bernard King and the Pistons had no one who even bother him, let alone defend him. This is one of the best NBA playoff shootouts, at Joe Louis Arena.
Bald Head Kid: "Joe Louis Arena, April 1984... Game Five of the East First Round.. Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks have the series tied at 2-2.
Isiah Thomas and Bernard King go at it! Winner take all...
12/06/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Redskins essentially knocking the Eagles out of the NFC Playoffs in 1982. The Redskins were just very good defensively in 1982, as their offense was up and down. This is also one of the better games in the great Eagles-Redskins-NFC East rivalry.
On This Day in Pro Football History: "1982-12-6 Sports Illustrated"
Erik Schneider: I wouldn't say that the Celtics-Lakers rivalry is the best rivalry in the history of pro sports, because it certainly isn't today. But back in the 1980s, it was the best rivalry in all of pro team sports, because they were the two best franchises in the NBA, they were always playing for the championship, their regular season games felt like NBA Finals games, and they truly disliked, but respected each other.
Larry Bird battling Magic Johnson for a rebound, at The Great Western Forum. How often do you see a point guard boxing out a forward in the NBA?
The NBA History: "The Game Time experts take a look back and a look ahead to the storied Lakers Celtics rivalry."
12/07/2022 - Erik Schneider: If you love offensive basketball, then you love this Celtics-Blazers matchup, because both teams were loaded with firepower and liked to run. The Celtics obviously had their big three led by Larry Bird, but they also had Cedric Maxwell, Dennis Johnson, Danny Ainge, and Scott Wedman. The Blazers had Calvin Natt, Kenny Carr, Clyde Drexler, Mychal Thompson, and Jim Paxson.
Basketball Jones: "February 19, 1984, Boston Celtics at Portland Trail Blazers highlights focusing mostly on Larry Bird.
Prime Bird with his usual great all-around game. Just everywhere and making it look easy, as always.
Highlights also including Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Dennis Johnson, Jim Paxson, Fat Lever, Cedric Maxwell, Clyde Drexler, Gerald Henderson, Calvin Natt, Kenny Carr, Wayne Cooper, Danny Ainge and Mychal Thompson."
12/08/2022 - Erik Schneider: If Dick Stocton's NBA On CBS intro can't get you up for a 76ers-Celtics game, at the Boston Garden, then nothing will. They were simply the best.
Larry Legend: "Another 80's classic from the 85/86 regular season. One of the greatest teams of all-time against 76ers with young Charles Barkley. Celtics played without injured Kevin McHale.
Larry Bird: 28 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, amazing half-court shot at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Bill Walton: 19 points, 13 rebounds, great basketball by reborn Walton. This was one of his best games in Celtics uniform.
Charles Barkley: 26 points, 21 rebounds (11 offensive), just a beast down low, overpowering everyone, great game by young Barkley.
"I just like being on Larry Bird's team," Walton said. "It's like playing with all great players. There's a sense that we're going to do it, that we're going to get the job done."
Celtics won it in the end 105:103."
12/09/2022 - Erik Schneider: Charles Barkley must have felt very lonely playing for the 76ers in 1988. No more Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Andrew Toney in and out of the lineup, no more Terry Catledge, even. Classic Celtics-76ers game at the Philadelphia Spectrum.
Larry Legend: "Phenomenal game by the greatest frontcourt in basketball history; Bird, McHale and Parish. This one is from the late stages of 87/88 regular season against Charles Barkley and Philadelphia 76ers.
Larry Bird: 28 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 13/24 FG.
Kevin McHale: 24 points, 6 rebounds, 10/12 FG.
Robert Parish: 22 points, 8 rebounds, 10/14 FG.
Celtics won the game 117:108."
12/12/2022 - Erik Schneider: Both the Bucks and 76ers having off years in 1988, at least compared with what they accomplished during the rest of the 1980s. They played several great playoff series against each other in the early and mid 1980s. Classic game at the Philadelphia Spectrum.
Utah Jazz Fanatic: "Monster game by sir Charles and amazing shooting clinic by Ricky Pierce."
12/13/2022 - Erik Schneider: You think Walter Payton took any flying lessons from Gayle Sayers? Classic game between the 49ers and Bears at Wrigley Field. The game that made Gayle Sayers an NFL superstar.
Jim Vanderlans: "December 12, 1965 - Scenes of Gale Sayers in action as he'll tie a 36 year old NFL record when he scores six touchdowns for the Chicago Bears in a 61-20 victory over the 49ers at Wrigley Field.
His TDs included:
☑️ a 85 yard punt return
☑️ a 80 yard pass from Rudy Bukich
☑️ and a 50 yard rushing TD
💯 His total yards on the day were 336."
Erik Schneider: When the St. Louis Cardinals of the late 1960s and 1970s, with QB Jim Hart, were healthy and Hart had time to throw the ball, they were as good as anyone in the NFL offensively. Good enough to beat great teams like the Dallas Cowboys, especially at Busch Memorial Stadium.
Phil Boyd: Cardinals QB Jim Hart (#17) rolls away from oncoming Cowboy Jethro Pugh (#75) as guard Bob Young (#64) tries to keep him away. Also pictured are Leo Hayden (#32) and Hall of Famer Dan Dierdorf (#72).
Erik Schneider: Michael Jordan's 1st NBA game ever, was with the Chicago Bulls, against the Wizards (as they're now called) in 1984.
KY Hoops TV: "Chicago Bulls vs Washington Bullets on October 26th, 1984 in Chicago, IL at Chicago Stadium. Michael would have a solid game, in his NBA Debut he would score 16 points on 5-16 shooting & 6-7 from the Free Trow line. The Bulls won, 109-94."
12/14/2022 - Erik Schneider: Great shot by Larry Bird, against the Wizards (as they're now called) at the Capital Centre. From 1986-88, Larry Bird was basically unguardable. Every time the Celtics needed a big basket or assist, they seemed to get that from Larry Legend.
Rumpel Stiltsky: "November 7 1987: Larry Bird's buzzer beater beats Bullets in double OT. With 24 seconds left in the 4th quarter, Bird hit a 3 that was waived off by the refs because Celtics coach K.C. Jones (who won 8 titles with Boston as a player) had signalled for a timeout a timeout before Danny Ainge raced down the court and kicked it to Bird. With 7 seconds left, the Celtics, still down 3, inbounded to Bird, who hit evaded the double team and hit a runner off one foot with 4 seconds left to send the game to OT. With 1 second left in OT and the game tied, the Celtics inbounded from the hashmark to Bird, who quickly turned and threw up a shot that looked good but hit off the back of the rim. "I thought that shot was going." said Bird after the game, who won the game for Boston at the buzzer in the next OT. The Celtics found themselves down 1 with 2 seconds left after Moses Malone put Washington back up. The Celtics inbounded the ball from the same spot as they did at the end of the 1st OT to Bird, who shot it from the same area of the floor. Ballgame. The ball actually hit the back of the rim again, but this time about a half inch closer to where it needed to be to drop in. Goes to show you how consistently accurate Bird was with the ball, whether passing or shooting, no matter the situation, whether set or off balance (his missed shot at the first OT buzzer was a turning fadeaway off one foot from deep with a defender right in his grill). Celtics win 140-139. Before Bird hit the buzzer beater, K.C. Jones was again signalling to the refs for another timeout, but they didn't see him with all the commotion. THAT would sucked for all parties involved had another clutch Bird shot gone in but not counted because the coach wanted to draw up a play when the play is, invariably, give the ball to Larry."
12/15/2022 - Erik Schneider: Two good young teams here in 1984, at least as far as talent. The Wizards (as they are now called) had Jeff Ruland, Rick Mahorn, Cliff Robinson, Jeff Malone, and Frank Johnson. The Bulls had Michael Jordan, (of course) Orlando Woolridge, Steve Johnson, and Quentin Dailey.
Classic Sports: "Jordan's NBA debut. He had 16 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals. I got most of these here. There was no score board on the screen or things showing any score. I thought about putting the score on it like I have for other older games but decided not to."
12/16/2022 - Erik Schneider: The Los Angeles Rams vs the Green Bay Packers, I believe from 1967. I think if the Rams had Roman for most of the 1970s, if not the entire decade, instead of the 1960s, they not only win multiple NFC Championships, but perhaps a Super Bowl as well. Because they were loaded on defense and had excellent offensive personal as well. But they were always playing teams in the NFC Championship that had superior QB's.

12/17/2022 - Erik Schneider: I'm still waiting to see the full version of The Long Haul. This is the last of the Diana Dors films that's on my list to watch. Excellent British, sort of a film noir/gangster film.
Diana Dors The Legacy: The Man Who Got Away: Diana Dors and her former beau Tommy Yeardye in 1957. Diana met Tommy on the set of "The Long Haul", where he had not only a small bit-part but was also the stunt double for Victor Mature.
The couple lived together at Diana's farmhouse 'Palmers'.
And it was Tommy who made the fateful decision in getting Diana to have Richard "Dickie" Dawson appear in her Theatre show "The Diana Dors Show" over another comedian. The rest is history, Diana married Richard Dawson and Tommy Yeardye would have a long career with Vidal Sasson.

12/19/2022 - Erik Schneider: Dan Issel was one of the top power forwards in the NBA in the 1970s and 80s. For all your young, Millennial NBA fans, the power forwards in the NBA is a big man, who has inside responsibility offensively and defensively. Not a player who generally pops up for threes on the fast break, like today. The Wizards and Denver Nuggets from 1979, at the McNichols Arena.
12/20/2022 - Erik Schneider: QB Sonny Jurgensen leading the Redskins against the New York Giants, at Old Yankee Stadium in 1974.
Up until the 1990s or so, the Redskins-Giants rivalry has always been one of the best rivalries in the NFL. But it's really in the 1980s and 90s when the Giants finally started winning again, that you saw how much those two teams didn't like each other, as well as the fans, when they were always batting for the NFC East title and trying to get to the Super Bowl.
Also, I believe this the Giants last season at Old Yankee Stadium. (But I'm not a New York Giants historian)

Ginoong Kamote: "In 1967, the two-time All-American was drafted No. two overall by the Baltimore Bullets (now the Washington Wizards) in the first round of the 1967 NBA draft, behind Jimmy Walker, who was selected by the Detroit Pistons. Monroe then won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in a season in which he averaged 24.3 points per game. 12/25/2022 - Erik Schneider: Walter Payton and the Chicago Bears, playing the New Jersey Giants (as I call them) at Giants Stadium, back in 1977.
The 77 Bears were 9-5, averaged 200 yards a game rushing, (which seems amazing) thanks to Walter and their OL. James Scott had a big year for them receiving with 50 receptions and 800 yards, and of course Walter's 1800 yards rushing, with a 5.5 average per carry. And FB Roland Harper had a good year for them running and blocking. Head coach Jack Pardee's 1st playoff team in the NFL, was actually in Chicago, not Washington or Houston.

The 1965 Bears under George Halas, were still pretty good. They finished at 9-5, Gale Sayers was obviously there, but they still had WR Johnny Morris, TE Mike Ditka, QB Rudy Bukich had a big year for them, Dick Butkus's rookie season at MLB, playing for a very good defense.

12/28/2022 - Erik Schneider: Adrian Dantley was a great scorer, but not a great all around player. He just didn't have the size and strength to cover most normal sized small forwards, let alone the big ones like Larry Bird. I think this game is from the 1987 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, at the Pontiac Silverdome.
Ευδόξιος Λεονταράς: ADRIAN DANTLEY was one of the best scorers, and one of the greatest but underrated small forwards in NBA history.
He was forward’s worst nightmare, mastering the art of maneuvering around slower defenders, twisting and turning his body on the way to the basket. He also had a great jump shoot. He led the NBA in scoring for 2 seasons averaging more than 30 points per game each season between 1981 and 1984 and averaging more than 26 points for 8 seasons.
He was a six-time All Star who played for 15 seasons and ended his career with 23,177 points.

12/31/2022 - Erik Schneider: Preston Pearson and the Dallas Cowboys playing the Atlanta Falcons, at Atlanta Fulton Stadium, in 1976.
If you are a stats guy (perhaps a young NFL fan) who focuses mostly on stats when it comes to NFL players, you are probably not going to be very impressed with Preston Pearson. Because he only had 900 carries for around 3,600 yards and around 250 rec for 3000 yards. But that's your problem.
Preston was the classic hybrid player, someone who could both carry and receive and get big plays either as a runner or receiver. Sort of the classic wingback or 3rd down back, slot receiver. He did have years with over over 40 rec and 500 yards, back in the 1970s, when that was unheard of RB's because of the rules pre-1978.

1/02/2023 - Erik Schneider: Andrew Toney was one of the best two-way 2 guards of the 1980s. But had bad feet and didn't play with pain. Otherwise he would be in the Hall of Fame today. Love those old 76ers-Celtics games at the Boston Garden.
Charly Eyum'a Deïdo: ANDREW TONEY was one of the most gifted players in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers, but injuries robbed him of what should have been a long NBA career.
Toney was an essential piece on the 1983 champions, the man dubbed "The Boston Strangler" for his propensity to torture the Celtics.

1/04/2023 - Erik Schneider: Is it just me, or does it look alien for Ken Stabler to be playing against the Atlanta Falcons, at Atlanta Fulton Stadium, as a member of the New Orleans Saints? Especially wearing those black pants.
On This Day in Professional Football History: 1984-1-2: On This Day in Professional Football History: After weeks of courting by the USFL Memphis Showboats, Ken Stabler decided to stay with the New Orleans Saints.
Stabler’s attorney, Henry Pitts, said that the contract offered by the Showboats would have “enhanced his financial future.” The contract the Showboats offered was reported to be a 1-year deal worth $1 million.
From his Selma office, Pitts said that “Kenny was very flattered by the offer and it was an opportunity for him to enhance his financial future. But as I have said previously, Kenny is extremely loyal to the entire Saints organization. Something has started (in New Orleans), something good and exciting. He didn’t feel he’d do right by his teammates, the organization or the fans to leave at this time.” Stabler’s 1-year, $600,000 contract with the Saints expires February 1st.
Stabler, who just turned 38 on Christmas, battled through torn cartilage in his right knee that he suffered on the third play of the 1st game of the 1983 NFL season vs the St. Louis Cardinals. His knee felled him again in the 3rd quarter of the season finale against the Los Angeles Rams.
“I don’t want to hide behind an injury, but it’s been tough,” Stabler said. “I enjoyed playing this year, but it taxed me a lot. I didn’t feel that good all year...If you’re physically bothered, it takes all the fun and all the enjoyment out of playing. Right now it’s hard for me to walk around the pool table, much less play football.”
Last Tuesday, Stabler had arthroscopic surgery to repair the cartilage damage. Reflecting on the season, Stabler said that he should have undergone surgery when he first injured his knee instead of playing in pain throughout the season.
Showboat's attorney had announced prematurely a couple weeks ago that Stabler had reached an agreement in principle despite not seeing the Memphis offer. Showboat’s owner, Logan Young said that the offer was “everything” that Stabler wanted in a contract.
Pitts admitted that he was surprised when the announcement was made that Stabler had signed with the rival league. “I was caught off guard. They’re trying to do something up there, trying to sell tickets. And there’s no doubt that Kenny has that charisma.”
New Orleans Saints head coach Bum Phillips said the Stabler had a job with the team “as long as he wants it.” Stabler had been with the Saints since being waived by the Houston Oilers prior to the start of the 1982 training camp. Stabler would sign with the Saints a month later.

Erik Schneider: English Muffin Diana Dors always knew how to make her presence known and felt.
Old Hollywood: Diana Dors in Room 43 (1958)
1/05/2023 - Erik Schneider: I'm not a professional lipreader, but I'm betting that English Muffin Diana Dors is saying hello here, with that adorable Wiltshire, English accent of hers.
Old Hollywood: Old Hollywood~ - daniellesdarrieux: Diana Dors in Room 43 (1958)
1/06/2023 - Erik Schneider: Hollywood Babydoll's Jayne Mansfield and Lana Turner together, perhaps in the late 1950s or early 1960s, perhaps in Los Angeles or Palm Springs, it's just not clear. This would make for a world championship cutie contest. It would also be a very funny show, if they ever performed together.
Cheryl Julien: Jayne Mansfield & Lana Turner
Erik Schneider: I'm obviously biased here because North by Northwest is not only my favorite Alfred Hitchcock film, but it's my favorite movie of all-time and I saw it for like the 40th time last weekend. But it's 140 minutes of one funny and clever line after another, with a perfect cast and the perfect leading man in Cary Grant.
IMDB: A New York City advertising executive goes on the run after being mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies, and falls for a woman whose loyalties he begins to doubt.
1//09-2023 - Erik Schneider: They called him Never Nervous Pervis Ellison at Louisville. Great player with the Cardinals, perhaps one of the best college basketball big men ever. But playing center in the NBA at only 220 pounds, even when you are 6'11, Pervis was just giving up too much bulk and strength. Especially in the era that he played in the 1990s, with all those big, tall, strong centers, like Pat Ewing, Hakeem, Dave Robinson, Alonzo Mourning, Shaq, Kevin Willis, and even Rony Seikaly, whose guarding him in this photo.
Evdoxios Leontaras: "PERVIS ELLISON
Pervis Ellison was a very good college basketball player at Louisville. He also was awarded with the Most Outstanding Player Award. He earned the Nickname "Never Nervous Pervis" after leading Louisville to a National Championship in 1986 as A FRESHMAN.
Ellison was the first overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft, but when he arrived in the NBA the problems began to pile up. During his rookie season with the Sacramento Kings, he suffered through injuries. So the Kings traded Ellison to the Washington Bullets once the season was done.
The following season, he averaged 11 points per game, primarily off the bench and the next season, his 3rd, he became a full time starter and won the 1992 MOST IMPROVED PLAYER AWARD after averaging 20 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.
One of his best games occurred on November 25 1991 against the Celtics, when he recorded 30 points 18 rebounds and 4 blocks and also on January 31 1992, when he finished the game with 19 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 blocks and 2 steals against the Knicks.
The following year again struggled with injuries while averaging 17 p.p.g. Unfortunatelly after that Ellison never again appeared in more that 70 games in a single season.
Injuries and knee problems ruined his career."
1/09/2023 - Erik Schneider: Cheers, from Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint, from Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest. This conversation wasn't as friendly as the photo looks.

1/10/2023 - Erik Schneider: What's Dominique Wilkins known for? Great dunks and a lot of points. He's not one of the best all around players ever. Not someone who could put a team on his back and lead them even to the conference finals. When he wasn't putting up a lot of points, he wasn't having a great game. And when he didn't put up a lot of points, the Hawks generally lost. Because he didn't give you the other things that make players great, like the great defense, great playmaking for his teammates, he didn't make them better than they otherwise would've been.
Evdoxios Leontaras: DOMINIQUE WILKINS
''The Human Highlight Film''
My favourite NBA player, one of the best we’ve ever seen. and (IN MY OPINION) one of the top ten players Never to Win an NBA Championship
Luckily, greatness isn't just defined by the number of NBA championship rings a player amasses over the course of his career.
Dominique was a fantastic player, great scorer and rebounder (35th best offensive rebounder in the NBA)
He was selected in 7 All NBA team, he was 9 time All Star, 2 Slam Dunk Contest winner, 1986 NBA scoring title and he averaged 28 points per game for 10 consecutive seasons. (1984-1994)
Also Atlanta Hawks had 50+ wins in 4 consecutive seasons, where Dominique averaged 29 ppg from 85–86 to 88–89 season and also 29 ppg during the Playoffs.
He played 56 games with 40+ points and 7 games with 50+ points.
And finally, Dominique is 7th best of all time in usage rate .
(Usage rate is a stat that provides valuable context with which to interpret performance. Players with higher usage rates have more opportunities to impact a game).
Erik Schneider: The train scene with Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint, is not the only great scene in Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest. Just the best one.
1/11/2023 - Erik Schneider: I'm obviously not a mindreader (surprise, surprise) but I'm guessing that Eva Kendall (played by Eva Marie Saint) is waiting for her man Roger Thornhill, (played by Cary Grant) to save her, in Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest.
1/12/2023 - This might be from the filming of Dave with Kevin Klein. The hairstyle looks familiar.

Erik Schneider: Holy smokes, Batman! The world is on fire and Roger Thornhill (played by Cary Grant) is running away.
Lady Eves Reel Life: On Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2, The San Francisco Symphony will present the Alfred Hitchcock blockbuster, North by Northwest (1959), featuring Bernard Herrmann's iconic score, in evening performances at Davies Symphony Hall. As with all SFS film series presentations, North by Northwest will be screened with its score scrubbed from the soundtrack and instead performed live by the symphony orchestra...
6/13/2023 - Erik Schneider: When people think about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, they should focus on the number 33, not his jersey number. 19 time All Star, 6 time NBA MYP, 6 time NBA champion, and 2 time NBA Finals MYP. The best offensive player ever, one of the best defensive players ever, the the best two-way and the GOAT of the NBA.
Phyllis Evans: Jabbar is my GOAT.
Why?
Supreme Offense, offensive efficiency, defense, rebounding and passing
-Kareem has 3 total points titles
-Kareem peaked at 34.8pg at 57.4% untouched
-Kareem peaked at 60.4% WITH 800 fg
-Kareem led the league in blocks 4× even though it was probably 8× because they didn't register blocks his first 4 seasons
-Kareem led the league in total rebounds 2× peaking over +1,300 3×
-Kareem had 400 assists twice which is a lot for a pre Jokic Center. Bill Walton NEVER had 300 assists.
Dudes like James and Bird were/are SPECTACULAR but not on Jabbar's level of math and results.
Erik Schneider: The best two-way power forward of the 1980s, is Kevin McHale. In the mid and late 1980s, the two best forwards in the NBA played for the Celtics. Perhaps you are familiar with the other player. Just one example of why the Celtics were so good in that decade. The Celtics playing the Detroit Pistons at the Boston Garden.
Vin Macha: Greatest low post moves in the history of the NBA???
Erik Schneider: I'm not sure there are many people are aware of how good the St. Louis Cardinals were in the mid and late 1980s, at least on offense. When they had all of their players together, they were one of the best offensive teams in the NFL. When their offense was good, their defense played well and they could beat teams like the Cowboys at home, at Busch Memorial Stadium. Frank Gifford, Joe Namath, and O.J. Simpson, with the call of the game, for ABC Sports.

6/16/2023 - Erik Schneider: If you seen the movie Women's Prison, (1955) then you know that Hollywood Babydoll Cleo Moore, who did several crime movies back in the 1950s and Hollywood Goddess Ida Lupino, who had a great career both as an actress and filmmaker and produced TV as well, were in that film. Great movie about an abusive, female warden at a women's prison.
The Chums: Cleo Moore and Ida Lupino for Women’s Prison (1955)
6/17/2023 - Erik Schneider: Damn! Since the Cowboys beat Tom Brady tonight, I won't get to hear and see NFL Network devote their entire week to talking about how great he is. Wait, he could announce his retirement this week, just to stay in the news.
From Erik Schneider
Erik Schneider: David Robinson and Patrick Ewing just miss my top for NBA centers ever. Two of the best two-way centers ever. Both had great inside games, (offensively and defensively) both excellent rebounders, shot blockers, defenders, both ran the floor well, both winners.
Charly Eyum'a Deïdo: THE ROOKIE DAVID ROBINSON (1989-90)
Robinson was the first overall pick in 1987, but didn't make his NBA debut with the Spurs for another two years thanks to his commitment to Naval service.
The Admiral exploded onto the NBA scene in 1989, scoring 24.3 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 3.9 blocks per game. More importantly, the Spurs went from 21 wins in 1988-1989 to 56 in 1989-1990.
Robinson was a force for his entire career with the Spurs, and leading San Antonio to the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons.
That rookie year though, changed the fortunes of the franchise for a decade.
Erik Schneider: One of the best NFL 4th quarter comebacks ever, at least at Busch Memorial Stadium. And almost no one watched it.
St. Louis Football Cardinals: "11/8/1987: The Cardinals scored 28 unanswered points fourth quarter points to defeat the Bucs 31-28. It was the largest fourth quarter comeback in NFL history. Nice audio of Big Red radio voice Bill Wilkerson calling the fourth quarter scores."
1/18/2023 - Erik Schneider: Not often that the 49ers and Cardinals have been NFC playoff contenders at the same time. Good game at Busch Memorial Stadium.
St. Louis Football Cardinals: "10/31/1976: A late Mel Gray TD pass from Jim Hart tied the game and then Jim Bakken's OT field goal gave the Big Red a 23-20 Halloween victory over the San Francisco 49ers."
1/19/2023 - Erik Schneider: Aw, Baby Jayne going for a swim. I think this is from her own pool at The Jayne Mansfield Pink Palace. But I don't know for sure.
Erik Schneider: Just from watching a lot of old Bears games from the late 1970s and early 80s, it looks like they were always a QB away from being a very good team, not just on offense, but on defense as well. When you have Ken Margerum, Brian Baschnagel, James Scott, Rickey Watts, Emory Morehead, and the running game that they had, you should be able to move the ball in the air, if you have a good QB.
Classic Sports: "Ottis Anderson vs Walter Payton for the 1979 NFC Rushing Title. The NFL Rushing Title was essentially Earl Campbell's to lose and he won it pretty easily even against a tough Pittsburgh squad. Chicago also was needing to win big to get a shot at the playoffs as at that time the Redskins were looking like they were about to beat the Cowboys."
6/20/2023 - Erik Schneider: Great two-way guard, period. Could play the off-guard or point probably equally as well. Michael Jordan called Joe Dumars the toughest defender that he ever faced.
Evdoxios Leontaras: Joe Dumars. '' Broadway Joe ''
One of the best shooting guards of the 80's and 90's.
He was a very stable player throughout his 14-year NBA career. Of course he played his entire career with the '' Bad Boys '' of Detroit, DESPITE THE FACT THAT HE WAS NEVER A BAD BOY. Joe was a six-time All-Star, owner of two NBA Championship rings, a defensive standout and a clutch shooter. In 1994 he made a record hitting 10 3 pointers against Minnesota Timberwolves.
Of course he is known for his defense on Michael Jordan during the Pistons' title runs during the late 80's and early 90's. No one ever, as an individual defensive stopper, did a better job guarding him.
My total Respect to him. A True Gentleman and a very nice person.
Erik Schneider: The Giants and Cardinals played a lot of great games against each other in the 1980s, including this one at Busch Memorial Stadium.
St. Louis Football Cardinals: "12/26/82: The Cardinals clinched a wild card berth with a come from behind 24-21 victory over the Giants. Lomax to Green for the game winner."
1/21/2023 - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Elvin Hayes, obviously two of the best NBA big men ever. Kareem the GOAT center of the NBA and I would argue the best all around player as well. Before Kevin McHale and Karl Malone, Elvin was considered the best power forward ever and was an excellent center for the Wizards (as they're now called) guarding Kareem in the post.
Evdoxios Leontaras: "ELVIN HAYES - THE BIONIC MAN
One of the strongest power forwards ever, definetelly a top 10 power forward ! The guy was such an aggressive defender and offensive force.
He joined the NBA with the San Diego Rockets in 1968 and went on to lead the NBA in scoring with 28.4 points per game, and averaged 17.1 rebounds per game.
He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team and scored a career-high 54 points against the Detroit Pistons on November 11, 1968.
In his career with the San Diego/Houston Rockets and the Baltimore/Capital/Washington Bullets, Hayes played 1,303 games over 16 seasons, scoring 27,313 points and 16,279 rebounds. He is the all-time leading scorer for the Washington Bullets/Wizards.
HE NEVER MISSED MORE THAN 2 GAMES IN ANY OF HIS 16 SEASONS IN THE NBA.
He led the NBA in rebounding in 1970 and 1974 and played in 12 straight NBA All-Star Games from 1969 to 1980. He retired holding the NBA record for total regular-season minutes played, WITH EXACTLY 50,000 and won one Championship, in 1978, with Washington Bullets.
He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1990 and was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996 and voted to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021.
I read that for a time Hayes became a Liberty County, Texas, sheriff's deputy, fulfilling his childhood dream.
RESPECT"
1/22/2023 - A great action/comedy star both on the field and on television. And one of the best pass rushers of the 1970s.
Jordan Henderson: Los Angeles Rams DE Fred Dryer was an imposing force for the Rams' defense from 1972-1981.
He was also an imposing force against criminals when he starred as Sergeant Rick Hunter in the TV Show "Hunter" upon his retirement from professional football.
1/23/2023 - Erik Schneider: Beautiful, sexy, cowgirl, with the perfect western outfit. Perhaps she's looking for new cowgirl boots or works at that store.
Erik Schneider: The Cardinals getting a much needed upset win over an excellent Cowboys teams in 1981, at Busch Memorial Stadium. The great Harry Kalas with the call of this video. Cardinals head coach Jim Hanifan in the photo.
St. Louis Football Cardinals: "10/4/1981: Neil O'Donoghue's late field goal lifted the Big Red to a 20-17 victory over the Cowboys at Busch Stadium."
1/24/2023 - Erik Schneider: I think the two best all around RB ever are Walter and Marcus Allen. I just wish Al Davis's stayed the hell out of Marcus's career and let Tom Flores run the Los Angeles Raiders for him, because we'll never know how great Marcus could've been. And Jim Brown is still the best runner in NFL history.
Vin Macha: Sweetness is definitely a top 3 RB of all time.
Erik Schneider: Beautiful, sexy, adorable, cowgirl.
Erik Schneider: Every time I hear people say that Bill Walsh's 49ers weren't a tough, strong, physical team, even though they always had one of the best defenses, running games, and o-lines, in the NFL in the 1980s, I laugh hysterically. This Danny Bunz hit against Bengals FB Pete Johnson, who was like 260 pounds of muscle, might be the best tackle in Super Bowl history.
Erik Schneider: In the 1970s and 80s, there was no such thing as easy games in the NFC East. Even though the Cardinals were generally the 4th or 5th best team in that division, they always played the Cowboys, Redskins, Giants, Eagles, very well, because of their ability to move the ball, score points, get after the QB, and create turnovers. Good game at Busch Memorial Stadium.
Classic Sports: "Danny White vs Niel Lomax as the Cowboys come off an opening week loss to the Steelers on MNF. This would be the last game before the work stoppage for both teams.
Next week will be an all time lost classic that almost nobody has seen."
1/25/2023 - Erik Schneider: Not often that I disagree with Pat Riley on anything. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the GOAT NBA player ever.
@basketball.network: According to Pat Riley, neither Michael Jordan and LeBron James is the GOAT and it will always be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. 👀
(via Ramona Shelburne)
Erik Schneider: In 1983, almost everybody beat the Giants, including the Cardinals who missed the NFC Playoffs by one game.
St. Louis Football Cardinals: "10/24/83: Big Red kicker Neil O'Donoghue misses three FGs in overtime as the Cards and Giants play to a 20-20 tie."
1/26/2023 - Erik Schneider: Gorgeous Baby Jaclyn Smith. Seems too cute to also be this beautiful.
Len Bias is still the best basketball player in Maryland Terrapins history, perhaps even in ACC basketball history. Could you imagine had he not died early, the Celtics with Len Bias and Reggie Lewis, both playing with Larry Bird? They would've still been contending for and even winning NBA championships in the 1990s. Perhaps the Detroit Pistons don't repeat. Maybe Michael Jordan and the Bulls don't win their championships in the early 90s.
Evddoxios: Leontaras: What if Len Bias didn't die so young and played with the Celtics?
I say he would have been a great addition to the team and extended their dominance. He also would have given the team room to rest Legend Larry Bird, who unfortunatelly had back problems.
Len Bias before he died, was the second-overall pick in the 1986 draft and was definetelly one of the greatest college players of all time with tremendous skills.
He was considered by many to be one of the most complete forwards ever. He could score, rebound, and pass well.
Felt deep pity for his lost . He didn't live to become an NBA Legend
In my opinion, Len Bias (RIP) could have been an improved version of Dominique Wilkins.
Erik Schneider: If this Cardinals-Jets game at Shea Stadium doesn't look like a mismatch on paper, I don't know what does look like a mismatch. I mean 11-3 vs 3-11, as far as their records that year.
St. Louis Football Cardinals: "11/23/1975: The St. Louis Cardinals visit Shea Stadium and defeat the NY Jets 37-6 for their sixth straight victory."
1/27/2023 - Erik Schneider: Whitney Houston certainly had a Hall of Fame and Super Bowl face and voice. Just wish she were still alive today.
Pro Football Hall of Fame: 32 years ago today, it was the Super Bowl.
The Persian Gulf War had started only 10 days before, emotion was high and the stage was set.
Erik Schneider: The 1977 Saints were 3-11, but had real talent on offense, with QB Archie Manning, RB's Chuck Muncie and Tony Galbraith and TE Henry Childs. Hank Stram was their head coach, Dick Nolan and Sam Rutigliano were also on that coaching staff. Gary Bender was one of my favorites play by play announcers growing up and still is. He had a great voice, knew his sports, did his homework, and had a good sense of humor. Good game at Busch Memorial Stadium.
Classic Sports: "Cardinals run it 52 times for almost 250 yards."
1/28/2023 - Erik Schneider: Yeah, you add up all their wins, championships, and personal accomplishments together, you won't find a better duo than Magic and Kareem. They simply are the best. You could make a good argument that the two best players in the NBA in the 1980s, both played for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Andrea Montanari: Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar.... The best duo ever seen on a basketball field!!! It' s Showtime!!!
Erik Schneider: The best front court ever. The Celtics had the best small forward, as well as forward ever in Larry Bird and the best power forward of the 1980s with Kevin McHale. Oh by the way, their 3rd best player Robert Parish, is also in the Hall of Fame.
Kevin Patrick Bryant: One of the best frontcourts ever.
Erik Schneider: Linda Evans reminds me a lot of Deidre Hall from Days of Our Lives. I think they could easily pass as sisters. Two tall, gorgeous, sexy, adorable, blondes, who are great soap opera veterans.
Antoine Cloete: Linda Evans (born Linda Evenstad; November 18, 1942) is an American actress known primarily for her roles on television. In the 1960s she played Audra Barkley, the daughter of Victoria Barkley (played by Barbara Stanwyck) in the Western television series The Big Valley (1965–1969). She is best known for portraying Krystle Carrington in the 1980s ABC primetime soap opera Dynasty, a role she played from 1981 to 1989.
1/28/2023 - Erik Schneider: Jack Sikma is certainly one of the best two-way centers in the NBA in the 1980s. Should've been in the HOF 20 years ago. He was like Bill Laimbeer with a post game. Good outside shooter, good rebounder, good defender, good passer, NBA champion and all star.
Evdoxios Leontaras: JACK '' GOLDILOCKS '' SIKMA.
Sikma was a pioneer as one of the earliest sharp-shooting centers. As a center, his distinct shot and accuracy allowed him to play a role outside of the paint.
6.11 Jack Sikma was a seven-time NBA All-Star with the Seattle SuperSonics, who drafted him in the 1st round with the 8th overall pick of the 1977 Draft. In 1979, he won a championship with Seattle. Sikma finished his playing career with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
He was known for his trademark reverse pivot and step back behind-the-head jumper, coined as the "Sikma move", along with his distinctive curly, blond hair during his playing days. During his 13 year career, he reached the playoffs eleven times and established himself as an accurate-shooting center. His style of play would become significantly influential for centers at both the amateur and professional levels. Sikma scored 17,287 points in his NBA career.
Despite being a center, Sikma was one of the most effective free-throw shooters in the league and he would shoot technical free throws for his teams. Sikma also set a then-record of 51 games without a free throw miss.
On a 2019 NBA TV segment, Chris Webber, Isiah Thomas, and Kevin McHale discussed his influence on modern-day basketball play with a segment entitled, "Jack Sikma's moves still being used today", discussing common moves taller players have since adopted to utilize their shooting and passing abilities.
UNBELIEVABLE
Erik Schneider: I just think when it comes to Larry Bird and a lot of players from his generation, it's cultural and generational. Young fans are interested in stats. The guy with the most individual stats, will automatically be better than someone who doesn't average as many assists, rebounds, point, etc. Larry Bird is still the best passing and shooting forward ever. Only Magic Johnson was as good a passer then Legend Bird.
Phyllis Evans: Love it or hate it the NBA is in good hands...
Recently John Wall and Mike Conley passed Larry Bird on the All-Time Assist list. Jrue Holiday will pass him any day now and Steph Curry's not far behind. I've ALWAYS said Larry Bird is the GREATEST critical passer I ever saw. But you got to give up props to the new guys.
Bird is now 46th All-Time in Assists with 5,695
Chris Paul is ACTUALLY homing in on Stockton with +11,000 3rd AT
LeBronze James has an AMAZING +10,000 Assists 6th AT
Russell Westbrook definitely an ATG has +8,500 Assists 11th AT
James Harden is the BEST passer in the NBA at 11.1ag +6,500 23rd AT
Kyle Lowry has a Hall of Fame career going +6,500 Assists 26th AT
1/30/2023 - Así las cosas por aquí!! Cine particular con @carlsjrmex para disfrutar de la @nfl mejor plan imposible!!
Erik Schneider: Hola, Bebe Chica! Inses Sainz is so cute and apparently hungry.
1/31/2023 - Erik Schneider: Miss Adorable Jaclyn Smith. You are still gorgeous, Baby.
Jaclyn Smith: The perfect white jeans do exist. #lovehsn
Erik Schneider: Talk about your underrated great players. Scottie Pippen was literally the point guard on those Bulls championship teams in the early and late 90s, as well as the best and most versatile defender on those teams.
Brian Maloney: Scottie Pippen during the 93-94 season. He was an MVP candidate that year in my opinion.
2/01/2023 - Erik Schneider: Well, since Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL, I guess I won't get to be able to hear how "awesome" he is from NFL Network and other sports networks this week. Life is full of disappointments and it goes on.
From Erik Schneider
Erik Schneider: Hollywood Goddess Farrah Fawcett returning to ABC's Charlie's Angels in 1979, for the Angel in a Box episode.
Farrah and Cheryl Ladd play sisters during the series. Rememberable for me, because I believe Cheryl is even cuter than Farrah, which is impressive enough. But it's the only time you get to see Farrah Fawcett in tight denim, designer jeans, during that whole series. She wasn't Catherine Bach or Heather Thomas, but she's very beautiful and sexy on this episode.
Charlie's Angels: Heavenly Sisters! #cheryladd #farrahfawcett #charliesangels
2/02/2023 - Erik Schneider: Sir Charles has a habit of being honest and right. I wish more people in sports were like that.
NBA Daily: Charles Barkley says NBA is incomplete without the legendary Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.
Erik Schneider: The 1983 New York Jets had everything to make the AFC Playoffs, except for a good head coach. One thing to fire Walt Michaels, but it's another to replace him with someone who wasn't as good. The 1983 Falcons still have a good team on offense, at least when they could protect QB Steve Bartkowski. But their defense fell apart under head coach Dan Henning. Even matchup at Shea Stadium. Harry Kallas with the call of this video.
2/03/2023 - Erik Schneider: If you are a fan of the modern NFL, (which I'm not) then this Packers-Falcons game from 1983 at Atlanta Fulton Stadium, is the perfect game for you to watch, because there's very little good defense in it, at least until the 4th quarter. The Packers held on to win this game, they could've made the NFC Playoffs that year. Frank Glieber and Dick Vermeil with the call of the game.
Classic Sports: "This game would fit in with modern offensive score fests of today. Really awesome QB play by both Moroski and Lynn Dickey inspite of his 3 INTs. And it wasn't even the craziest game going on at that same time. That game will be up later today as I do have a lot of content today."
2/04/2023 - Erik Schneider: Don't let the baby face fool you.
Diana Dors The Legacy: A mean and moody publicity photograph of Diana Dors as Calico in "Tread Softly Stranger".
And despite the backdrop of the steel Mills up north, Diana proves to be 'too darn hot' for them to compete.
I just spotted that Diana is wearing her famous medallion bracelet, which was often on display during the late 1950s...
2/05/2023 - Erik Schneider: When I was growing up in the 1980s and early 90s, I never thought the big men positions would practically disappear. Now even big, strong, 6'8, 6'9, 6'10 guys, think they can shoot 3 pointers. And rebounding and post games are too old school for them.
Basketball Network: Charles Barkley explains why the NBA product today is awful.
Erik Schneider: I'll give you top 3, Evdoxios Leontaras. But I think he was the 2nd best defender on his teams in the 1990s. And Dennis Rodman when he was with the Detroit Pistons was even better defensively. Michael Cooper and Clyde Drexler were also great perimeter defenders.
Evdoxios Leotaras: In my opinion M.J is a top 3 perimeter defender in the NBA's history because he had all the skills to be great in defense. Height, length, great hands and athleticism. But his best advantage was his mental game that allowed him to read the opposing team's style of play. He was the first player in NBA history that had at least 100 blocked shots and 200 steals in a single season. He also ranks 3rd all-time in steals (2,514) in regular-season and 3rd all-time (376) during the playoffs. He finished his career (regulal + playoffs) with 1051 blocks.
And finaly Jordan is a 9 time All-NBA First Defensive Team and 1988 Defensive Player of The Year"
2/06/2023 - Erik Schneider: When the Packers were healthy in the early and mid 1980s, they were about as good as any other team in the NFL on offense. They could pass and run, put up a lot of yards and points. Which is what they did against the Falcons at Atlanta Fulton Stadium.
2/07/2023 - Erik Schneider: This 1977 Falcons-Bears matchup is actually very good. The Falcons had one of the best defenses in the NFL with their Grits Blitz. The Bears had a great running game and big play passing game. Vin Scully with the call of the game for CBS Sports.
Classic Sports: "Grits Blitz vs Payton's Bears. Sorry this one is short but there wasn't a lot in this game. Offense was pretty lacking in this one like most Falcons games from this season. This is the 7th Falcons game from 1977 I've put up. Statistically this is the best defense in NFL history and that isn't even close. Longer videos for the rest of the week though."
2/08/2023 - Erik Schneider: The Chiefs taking apart a pretty bad Falcons team in 1985. The Chiefs in the mid and early 1980s, were good enough offensively to put up a lot of points a yards.
Sports Odyssey: "Jack Buck / Hank Stram (CBS Sports)"
2/09/2023 - Erik Schneider: This looks like it could be a scene from a James Bond movie. Baby Jayne would've made a great Bond girl. But I think this is just Jayne Mansfield on some beach, with one of her bad husbands. One of her losing men. Actually, this might be Johnny Cash with Jayne. Could be Mike Connors. But I just don't know.
Erik Schneider: The Eagles-Cowboys rivalry started with Dick Vermeil. Great game at Texas Stadium, with the great Harry Kallas calling the video.
Rog: "Highlights from ESPN"s Monday Night Memories of the Eagles-Cowboys game played on November 12,, 1979.
-This game from 1979 was the first of 3 consecutive loses for Dallas during an 11 day time span.
Some notables:
- Eagles kicker Tony Franklin kicked a 59 yard field goal barefoot
- Cowboys LB Thomas Henderson would be released from the Cowboys in a week
- Both teams ended up having an 11-5 record this season
Final Score: Eagles 31 Cowboys 21
Video cuts off just prior to ending."
2/10/2023 - Erik Schneider: Evdoxios, I think I'm starting to love you. Jeff Ruland was going to be a great two-way NBA center, but then he busts his knee and his career is basically over at that point. The Wizards (as they're called now) had some mismanagement in the 1980s, like drafting Kenny Greene, instead of Karl Malone. Trading Rick Mahorn for basically nothing. But they also had some bad luck, like PG Frank Johnson breaking his foot and Ruland busting his knee. In the mid and late 1980s and even into the 1990s, they could've had a starting lineup of Frank Johnson and Jeff Malone in the backcourt, and the original Cliff Robinson, Rick Mahorn, and Jeff Ruland upfront, John Williams, Tom McMillan, and Greg Ballard off the bench. With a good head coach, that's a very good NBA playoff team. And there would be no need to trade for Moses Malone or draft Manute Bol. But of course we'll never know.
Evdoxios Leontaras: JEFF RULAND is not well known. But the level of his basketball skill was really too high for his time, with great attacking repertoire, rebounding and passing skills. If the injuries were less harsh on him, surely he will be able to compete in several All Stars, and he will surely stand out as one of the best power forwards /centers of the 80s..
In Washington Bullets (1981-86) he played for 5 seasons, usually coming off the bench, (1983-84 season as a starter) with his FG percentage rarely dipped below 50%. In his best season, 1983-84, he scored 22.2 points and pulled down 12.3 rebounds per game, in 41 minutes. Somehow he managed to compete in the 1984 All Star, while he was also selected for the 1985 but did not compete due to injury. Already in 1985 he has started to have serious injury problems. In 1986 he played for Philadelphia 76ers (1986-87) where he managed to play 30 games.
Unfortunatelly he realized that at just 29 years old, his body can't stand basketball. He would decide to retire, only to return in 1991 to play 13 games for the Detroit Pistons. He finished his very short career (along with the games he was playing almost lame) averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Erik Schneider: I freakin love this movie. Not a dull moment. But they could've given the English Muffin a bigger role and make the whole film available in America.

2/11/2023 - Erik Schneider: The Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Memorial Stadium, from 1972. Here's a Pro Bowl matchup here between Cowboys DT Jethro Pugh and Cardinals OG Conrad Dobler. Pugh probably has a decent, if not good case for the HOF, but he played with a lot of other great Cowboys defensive lineman and that might be holding him back.

@dianadorsthelegacy: A gorgeous publicity photograph of Diana Dors to promote her role as Matilda in Herman Cohen"s "Berserk".
"Berserk" is famously known as one of Joan Crawfords last cinematic offerings. The circus horror also starred Michael Gough, Judy Geeson, Ty Hardin, Philip Madoc and one of my favourite's Marianne Stone, amongst others.
Diana Dors as Matilda is extremely watchable, and alongside Crawford gives the film two strong female characters.
Berserk will be shown on Talking Pictures TV on Friday 17th February at 23:00pm. The film is part of The Cellar Club Evening, hosted by Caroline Munro...
Erik Schneider: More beautiful, sexy, Latin American cowgirls. Hola, benita bebe chicas.
2/16/2023 - Erik Schneider: Conrad Dobler was one of the best power blockers of the 1970s. If he, Dan Dierdorf, and Tom Banks, all played their prime years in the 1980s, with St. Louis Cardinals, they probably would've lead the NFL in rushing and passing.
Players That Passed Away: Conrad Dobler, a former NFL guard who played for 10 seasons, passed away at the age of 72. This was announced on social media through several former NFL players. He was selected in the fifth round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the Cardinals, with whom he was a member of for six seasons, and later spent two seasons each with the New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills. A three-time Pro Bowl selection during his Cardinals tenure, Dobler also achieved notoriety for frequently utilizing unsportsmanlike tactics against opponents, which he openly acknowledged.
After playing college football at the University of Wyoming, Dobler was selected in the fifth round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He played right offensive guard for the Cardinals from 1972 to 1977, next to hall-of-famer Dan Dierdorf at right tackle. In those years, the Cardinals had solid offensive lines, especially for pass blocking; they allowed just eight sacks in 1975, then a record (though helped by quick releases from quarterback Jim Hart). Dobler was an important cog in this success, making three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances from 1975 to 1977.
Dobler quickly developed a reputation as a nasty player, and he did little to tone down that image. On the contrary, he seemed to revel in it, probably believing that this would intimidate some defensive players, as indicated by the following quote: "I see defensive linemen jump to knock a pass down. When that happened near me, I'd smack 'em in the solar plexus, and that got their hands down real quick." As sportswriter Paul Zimmerman said: "Conrad Dobler was mean dirty. He tried to hurt people in a bad way...he made teams that he played on better. He played hurt, didn't complain, but he was a filthy, filthy player." He made the cover of Sports Illustrated, which heralded Dobler as "Pro Football's Dirtiest Player".
In 1978, the Cardinals traded Dobler to the New Orleans Saints, where he played for two seasons. His final two seasons were with the Buffalo Bills, retiring after the 1981 campaign.
Condolences to his family and friends and may he Rest in Peace.

3/01/2023 - Erik Schneider: The Eagles were still very good defensively under Marion Campbell in the mid 1980s, which is how they gave the 49ers a good game at Philadelphia Veterans Stadium. But their offense, despite still having very good personal, as you see with their lineups, struggled a lot under Marion.
Classic Sports: "I've put up every 84 Dolphins game(outside of some preseason games which I may get to some day) but I realized I don't have that many games of the other team they played in the final game that year. 3/17/2023 - Erik Schneider: Dennis Johnson is definitely one of the best two-way point guards and perhaps guards ever, who should've been in the HOF 25 years ago. He played for great teams, with great players and yet was still so valuable to the Celtics, that they don't win those last 2 NBA Finals without him, because he was such a great defender and QB of their offense.
3/25/2023 - Erik Schneider: I just wish the English Muffin worked more with Hitch. They had similar sense of humors and comedic timing.

4/12/2023 - @Erik Schneider: Young NFL fans simply don't understand old school American football. They expect to be able to drink coffee at their games and watch NFL games as if they were at home or at giant movie theater, which is why the stadiums look the way the do, with all the domes. They have no interest in NFL history and when the came was simply only for tough guys, who thought game NFL was war.
@The NFL In The 1970s: Remembering the Black and Blue Division.
Throughout the 1970s, the NFC Central Division was known for the teams that comprised it, and for their unabashed toughness and their rigid willingness to beat the living crap out of each other. It was the only division in the NFL that had its own nickname...the legendary Black and Blue Division. From 1970 to 1976, the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears, and the Detroit Lions took it as a badge of honor to deliver as many bruises and injuries to each other whenever they met on the gridiron. Deemed by many pro football experts as the hardest-hitting division in the NFL during the early years of the decade, the NFC Central featured teams in the northern climates of the country, where snow and ice often made a dramatic appearance in their winter contests. True, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers joined the division in 1977, but they were not really known for their hard hits...at least not until 1979 when they won the division. But the Vikings, Packers, Bears and Lions had a special connection to each other, in that when the games that they played against each other were over, they were apt to share a beer with their opponents from the old Black and Blue Division...while they visited them in the hospital or distributed post-game ice packs to each other in the stadium parking lots. Yes, the NFC Central Division during the 1970s was that tough.

4/26/2023 - @Erik Schneider: The greatest 2-guard, yes. The greatest NBA player of the 1990s, yes. Would he on my all time starting lineup, yes. The greatest all around player, no. He dominated the NBA when the greatest players had either retired, we're getting older, or were about to retire. When the greatest teams in the NBA were no longer around.
@Evdoxios Leontaras: MICHAEL JORDAN. The greatest basketball player of all time that played 15 seasons for the Bulls and Wizards and averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.3 steals in 1,072 regular-season games.
Jordan was selected to play in 14 All-Star games. He won the Rookie of the Year award, 1 Defensive Player of the Year award, 5 MVP awards, 6 Finals MVP awards and 6 NBA championships. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009.
His best statistical season (in my opinion) was 1988-89. M.J averaged 32.5 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and almost 3 steals per game (on 54.6%).
DURING THAT SEASON HE WAS MOVED TO THE POINT GUARD POSITION AND HE THEN WENT ON TO RECORD A TRIPLE DOUBLE FIGURE IN 10 OF HIS 11 GAMES AS A POINT GUARD AND HIS NUMBERS WERE AMAZING : 33. 6 POINTS , 10.8 REBOUNDS AND 11.4 ASSISTS PER GAME
He also averaged 33.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists in 179 career games in the Playoffs
Jordan scored 246 points averaging 41 ppg, in the 6-game 1993 Finals.
He is arguably the best baller ever, although he's not my favourite player.
In the photo Jordan is scoring the game-winning basket over Cleveland's Craig Ehlo, in Game 5 of the Playoffs , on May 7, 1989, in Cleveland. In that game he scored 44 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
4/27/2023 - @Dimitris Kokkinos: hat is half true. You can argue that during 90-93, the behemoths of the 80's like Magic Johnson or Bird were at a late basketball age or retired but when he earned three consecutive championships for 2nd time, there were also great players around at their prime, In general I think that the whole GOAT talk is pointless since it is ve ry difficult to compare players for much distant and different eras but if you want my opinion Magic should be included in this discussion as well. Besides being a point guard 40 years in front of his era(nowadays you see guys like Giannis remininscing Magic's game but with obviously less skills and even today its not really common to see a point guard at 6'9'' doing all the things Magic did)
@Erik Schneider: Really? You would put the 96 Seattle Sonics, 97 and 98 Utah Jazz, in the same class as the 76ers, Celtics, Lakers, Pistons, from the 1980s? The Bulls should've lost the 92 finals to the Blazers and could've lost to the 91 Lakers as well, which was the worst of the Lakers finals team. It's not just that the players that MJ faced weren't as good as the players before, but the teams weren't as good either.
From Evdoxios Leontaras
4/30/2023 - @James Adams: I am watching this movie someone gave me a long time ago, I have never watched it. It's a bachelor party movie, these guys all go to Vegas, they have a stripper, one of them, not the groom, has sex with her in the bathroom, she dies, they decide the plan is to not call the police. While they are deciding this a security guard comes to the door, he sees the body, they kill him too.
This is supposed to be a comedy, they go to the hardware store and buy cleaning supplies and saws, they cut the bodies up and put them in suitcases.
I am shocked, this movie was made in 2013, I had no idea this was part of the script, I am freaking, it's just like what the Saudis did. I want to stop it, but I here I am telling you guys about it, while they try to justify what they did.😩

@Evdoxios Leontaras: Good morning my man. Of course Dirk Nowitzki. He is the best European player of all time. The reason is that Nowitzki led Mavericks to the playoffs and won a championship. And all that without a star teammate.
He won one NBA title, one Finals MVP, one MVP, 12 All-NBA selections, 14 All-Stars, one World Cup bronze medal and one Eurobasket silver medal. He is the best of the best.
@Evdoxios Leontaras: Dimitris Diamantidis and Nick Gallis are for me, the best European players of all time who didn’t play in the NBA.
Nick was Inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame and Basketball Hall of Fame, he also won 5 Greek League MVPs thanks to his scoring ability.
Galis averaged over 31 points per game throughout his entire career, and later he turn down an offer by NBA teams because FIBA had banned NBA players from playing for their National teams.
Dimitris Diamantidis dominated European basketball and is one of the biggest European legends ever. He’s the Euroleague all-time leader in both steals and assists, and a six-time Greek League MVP.
Unfortunatelly he went undrafted in 2002. That was a mistake of course. He was incredibly skilled and for me he is the best European point guard in basketball history.

@The NFL In The 1970s: Making all the Right Moves.
Earlier last week, I asked you folks to tell me who you thought was the fastest running back DURING THE 1970s. Today, we'll change it up a bit. My question for you folks today is, which running back do you think had the most moves DURING THE 1970s? I'm talking about a runner who could stop on a dime, juke a defender, make a spin (if needed)...in general, a runner who could and would avoid an impending tackler by showing him some superlative moves.
Me? I'm going with Terry Metcalf of the St. Louis Cardinals (#21 in photo). I almost went with Greg Pruitt of the Cleveland Browns, but I settled on Metcalf. I have just seen Metcalf make potential defenders look foolish so many times, as they grasped at nothing but air, as "Terrific Terry" sped on by.
How about you? Who do you think was the running back that had all the right moves DURING THE 1970s? In order for your answer to be legit, he had to have played at least one year during the decade OF THE 1970s. Also, please don't list wide receivers like Billy "White Shoes" Johnson. We're looking for running backs only in this post. Thank you.
8/31/2023 - @Erik Schneider: I grew up in the 1980s as a diehard Redskins fan, but the 1979 Redskins weren't a great team. 10-6 is not a great record, that would be like a 50-32 record in the NBA, or wining just 90 games in MLB. The 79 Redskins were very well-coached, but didn't play very well against the great teams in the NFL that season, got blown out by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
@The NFL In The 1970s: Not an Easy Question to Answer...
But nevertheless, a subjective one. There have been many great NFL teams DURING THE 1970s that have made the playoffs. But there have also been many great teams DURING THE 1970s that HAVE NOT made the playoffs. Those teams fought hard and earned winning records, but came up just a tad short, often by the slimmest of margins, to get to the postseason tournament.
What team DURING THE 1970s do you wish WOULD HAVE made the playoffs? What team DURING THE 1970s do you think SHOULD HAVE made the playoffs? Believe it or not, there were several teams DURING THE 1970s that won 10 games in a season but were watching the playoffs on television at home.
One of those teams is my answer to this question -- the 1979 Washington Redskins. They finished that year with a record of 10-6, and they missed out on getting a playoff berth by one point! Their 35-34 loss on the final Sunday of the 1979 regular season at Dallas (in photo), combined with Chicago's big win over St. Louis on the same day sent the 1979 Redskins into the "waiting for next year" mindset.
So, what team DURING THE 1970s do you wish would have, and perhaps should have, gone to the playoffs? I realize that this is a tough question, so feel free to do a Google search to look up the standings during the 1970 to 1979 years to help you come up with an answer. Good luck!
9/02/2023 - @Erik Schneider: The English Muffin is hilarious, especially with other great comedians. The more talk show appearances that you have on her, the better.
@Diana Dors The Legacy: The Legendary Larry Grayson interviews Diana Dors on his hit TV series "Shut That Door".
Diana and Larry are discussing with the audience who dubbed Lauren Bacall's singing voice in the film "To Have And Have Not".
9/03/2023 - @Erik Schneider: I have the link to this video on my blog. This appearance with The English Muffin is hilarious.
@Diana Dors The Legacy: It's fair to say that the footage of Diana Dors and Larry Grayson was very popular. So here is another clip of Diana with a true giant of British Comedy.
Diana makes her first appearance on the "Parkinson" chat show and is joined with Desmond Morris and the late, great Kenneth Williams.
Diana, like Kenneth was renowned for her quick wit, which she displays a few seconds into the footage. Enjoy!
9/10/2023 - @Erik Schneider: Tommy Nobis might be the best bad team linebacker that ever played. A great, Pro Bowl LB, but who played for the expansion Atlanta Falcons in the late 1960s and early and mid 70s. If he was drafted by Leeman Bennett, he's probably in the Hall of Fame today.
@NFL Past Players: Tommy Nobis, the First Draft Pick of the Atlanta Falcons -
Out of Texas - The first draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 1966. Tommy Nobis went on the play 11 seasons in the NFL, all with the Falcons. The 1966 Rookie of the Year, an All Pro in 1967 & 1968 and was named to 5 Pro Bowls. The general consensus among Old School NFL fans is he belongs in the Hall of Fame.
9/16/2023 - @Evdoxios Leontaras: Nobody could stop Michael Jordan from scoring completely, but only slow him down, which Joe Dumars did exceptionally well during their matchups.
Jordan said that Dumars was the BEST DEFENDER he ever had to go up against in his career.
@Joel Petino: Jordan had to wait until all the greats from the 80s retired or were too old before he won anything. No goat goes 6-7 years out of college without at least making the finals. Period. Kareem won a title 2nd year with the Bucks. Who else has done that ?
@Erik Schneider: Earvin in his 1st year and Larry in his 2nd. But the rest of what you said is correct.

9/24/2023 - @Erik Schneider: I think the main reason for the artificial turf, had to do with the cookie-cutter stadiums, that had both football and baseball, as well as the domes. The NFL teams that played in baseball first stadiums, like Baltimore Memorial, Shea Stadium, Cleveland Municipal, Jack Murphy, and the Oakland Coliseum, still played on grass.
@The NFL In The 1970s: The Decade of Artificial Playing Surfaces.
The 1970s saw the rapid growth of NFL stadiums installing artificial playing surfaces. From 1970 to 1979, a total of 19 different pro football stadiums in America featured artificial field surfaces for at least one or more seasons. Be it Poly-Turf, Tartan Turf, Prescription Athletic Turf, or Astroturf, the NFL hierarchy approved of the continued use of artificial playing surfaces. In some cases, they demanded it. NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle informed the city of New Orleans after watching Super Bowl IV being played on a muddy field at Tulane Stadium, that if they did not switch to an artificial playing surface, the city of New Orleans would never host another Super Bowl. The Big Easy complied with Rozelle's demands.
The vast majority of NFL players did not approve of the switch to artificial turf fields, however. With the exception of placekickers, virtually every pro player detested the new plastic grass, and with good reason. Numerous injuries resulted from those fields, which basically consisted of plastic grass on top, a one-inch foam rubber pad in the middle, and a cement base. The Orange Bowl's Poly-Turf field saw its last use in Super Bowl X (in photo) in January of 1976. A couple of weeks prior to that game, Orange Bowl groundskeepers worked feverishly to repair the Poly-Turf, stitching and mending almost two dozen sections of that field. Dallas Cowboys tight end Jean Fugett suffered a knee injury in the first half of Super Bowl X, which sidelined him for the remainder of that game.
Today, the artificial turf fields are much different than what was seen in the 1970s. But injuries still occur, regardless of what kinds of playing surfaces are used.
What are your memories of the artificial turf fields of the 1970s?

9/24/2023 - @Warren Bell: The Oakland Coliseum was built for the Raiders. The A's arrived several years later.
@Erik Schneider: But it was much better suited for baseball. It looked like a baseball park when baseball was being played there. At least until the Raiders moved back.

9/24/2023 - @Erik Schneider: Now, does that look like the face of a killer? She's too cute to scare my pussy kitty, whose afraid of rain.
@Lydia Cornell: @NBC “Hunter” #flashback my role as Nicky Raines costarring Fred Dreyer and Stepfanie Kramer
9/25/2023 - @Matt Elliot: This theory doesn't hold up well to examination. One the earliest "cookie cutter" stadiums was RFK in Washington (originally District of Columbia Stadium) had a grass field. Also, Baltimore Memorial Stadium was originally built as a football stadium (in addition to the Oakland Coliseum, already discussed above).
You might argue that the cookie cutter stadiums built in the late '60's and 70's had artificial turf because it was "stylish" at the time. I can't completely discount that, but as the article above explains, the NFL began demanding artificial turf for any site that wanted to host the Super Bowl. That probably had more to do with the prevalence of artificial turf than other factors.
@Erik Schneider: Veterans Stadium, Busch Memorial, Three Rivers, Riverfront, and of course the domes, are all astroturf, baseball and football stadiums. What part of any of that do you disagree with? If you've been to Baltimore Memorial, or at least seen both the football and baseball configurations, you know it was better for baseball. The field looked a lot better, the fans had better seats, and the field was a very tight fit for football, unlike for baseball. And the same thing with the Oakland Coliseum. As far as RFK, that stadium was built about 10 years before astroturf came into style in both the NFL and MLB.

9/27/2023 - @Charles Balough: Then why didn't his teams ever win a Superbowl?

9/29/2023 - @Erik Schneider: The best NBA player ever, Evdoxios. No one comes close to the resume and accomplishments that he had.
@Evdoxios Leonteras: Kareem Abdul Jabar.
Not only he is one of the 3 best NBA players ever, but is also the best college and high school player of all time.
No one could stop his skyhook. And he made it look easy (though no one can replicate it).
Unfortunately we all want to be entertained and we want flashy players like MJ, LeBron and Kobe, but Kareem had the most impressive career of all the basketball players.
Rookie of the Year, member of six NBA championship teams, six-time NBA MVP, two-time NBA Finals MVP, 19-time All-Star, two-time scoring champion, and a member of the NBA 35th and 50th Anniversary All-Time Teams.
And most important, he is a committed social activist and award-winning writer.
10/08/2023 - @Erik Schneider: Atlanta Falcons QB Steve Bartkowski, trying not to be killed by Dallas Cowboys DE Ed Jones. I think this is from their 1978 NFC Divisional Playoff at Texas Stadium. But if there are any Falcon or Cowboy fans out there who think they know better, feel free to share.
Ed Jones was one of the few defenders, certainly in the 1980s when the new blocking and pass defense rules came into effect, that could literally dominate a game all by himself. Just ask New York Giants QB Phil Simms and I believe Philadelphia Eagles QB Ron Jaworski would say the same thing.
Too Tall should've been in the Hall of Fame a long time ago, because he was almost impossible to block one-on-one, simply because he was bigger and stronger, and probably quicker then most of the offensive tackles in the 1970s and 80s, to try to block him.
I think Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil had the best quote about him: "Trying to throw the ball over Too Tall, was like trying to throw the ball over a telephone poll." Talking about a defensive end who was 6'9, 275 pounds of muscle, with the quickness of the great NBA big man.
10/13/2023 - @Erik Schneider: I'm don't claim to be the greatest speller in the world. (Or even a good one) But for anyone who we know fairly well and have a lot of respect for, the least we can do is bother to research the person's name, before we write something about them.
@The NFL In The 1970s: Hey Folks, if you say that you have a favorite player of all time, and you continually misspell his name, it’s embarrassing. Several former players from the 1970s are followers of this page. No need to display your poor spelling to them…or to anyone. 🏈

10/15/2023 - @Erik Schneider: Nancy making a great statement here.
@Nancy Lee Grahn: Dear friends, you haven't heard from me because I honestly don't know what to say. I am, as most of you are, enraged, horrified, frustrated, scared, and deeply, deeply sad. The only thing I know for certain is that Hamas, and anyone who supported their unforgivable act of savagery, is to blame for ALL of it. To form conclusions other than that, at this time, is simply unacceptable to me. Please refrain from doing that here. Thank you.
If you're interested, this letter, sent from a friend, best sums up my feelings for now.
“This time hits different. The visceral hurt gripping my entire body feels the way I felt as a teenager standing in Majdanek, Treblinka, Auschwitz - Holocaust death camps in Poland. Witnessing crematoria and gas chambers, built from hate, intended to destroy an entire people. The existential fear imprinted on my Ashkenazi DNA from generations of trauma, hatred, persecution has been actively triggered. It’s on high alert. It's more than vicarious, even it - thank God - it's not direct for me personally.
AND
I believe in the Palestinian right to statehood. I believe in Israel’s right to exist, while I simultaneously abhor many state practices and policies. There’s much more to say about Israel/Palestine - but right now, just this:
Terrorism deserves condemnation, unequivocally, simply as a baseline requirement of membership in the human race. Period. Full stop. There is NO justification for what Hamas has done. None.
One can, in fact, support Palestinians, oppose violence, ache for Gaza, all of that - and also acknowledge the distinct horror of these attacks, the unthinkable scale of these atrocities. One can sympathize with Palestine and also decry the evil of terrorism. These are not mutually exclusive. One can even detest Zionism while still condemning Hamas’s methods. But one cannot equivocate the two. The situation is complex, to the say the least, yet invoking both-sidesism essentially justifies terrorism. Furthermore, it discounts, degrades, and demeans the not-so-distant history of Jewish genocide. And that, cannot and will not abide. “

10/21/2023 - @Erik Schneider: As far as I'm concern, only Michael Jordan had a better all around game as an off-guard than Clyde Drexler. Great offensive player, defender, creator for himself and his teammates, played the point on the fast break a lot of the Blazers, deadly shooter. He doesn't get as much respect as the others, because he played for a small market team for most of his career, until he got to Houston in 1995. Even Michael Jordan said that Clyde reminded him of himself.
I think this photo is from the 1988 NBA All Star Slam Dunk Contest at Chicago Stadium.
@Evdoxios Leontaras: Clyde is widely regarded as the 2nd best SG of his time. He's only underrated just because he was playing under the greatest shooting guard ever and couldn't take down the Bulls. In his best year he averaged 27pts/7rebs/6 dimes and 2-3 steals a night. Drexler is also one of just six players in NBA history with 20,000 points, 6,000 rebounds, and 6,000 assists (John Havlicek, Oscar Robertson, Kobe Bryant, Russell Westbrook and LeBron are the other five). Easily a top 40 player of all-time.
Dominique Wilkins, on the other hand, is perhaps the most underrated player in NBA history.
He currently ranks 15th all-time in scoring with 26,668 Regular Season points and averaged nearly 25 points for his carreer. That's only five points less than M.J's career scoring average.
Another impressive stat is that Dominique is one of the six players to average at least 25 ppg for ten consecutive seasons.
Dominique never have won a championship or a MVP, but he is for me a top 35 player of all-time and he'll always be (Dr J is the other ) MY FAVORITE NBA.
11/05/2023 - @Erik Schneider: The battle of the Keystone State between the Eagles and Steelers at Three Rivers Stadium. I'm thinking 1975, right before Dick Vermeil took over the Eagles. Even with the 4 Super Bowl rings, I still think Franco Harris is an underrated RB. 6'2, 225 pounds, excellent power and speed, excellent big game RB, but he gets overlooked.
@The NFL In The 1970s: Time Again for Name Those NFL in the 1970s Teams!
This is a pretty tough one, and most of you will not get a complete answer, because I am asking you to identify five different teams. It will also test quite a few of you, because you actually need to READ THE QUESTION in order to get a correct answer.
During the decade of the 1970s, there have been just five NFL teams that have played in only ONE playoff game from 1970 to 1979. Who were those five teams? When you chime in with your answers, I will respond by stating which team(s) you answered correctly. If you answer a couple of them correctly, you have done well. If you get 3-4 correct, then you have done really well. And if you get all 5 correct, you are an expert regarding the NFL in the 1970s.
One other tip for those of you who have actually read this question...the photo for this post does not include any of the five teams. I guess I better repeat that. The photo for this post does not include any of the five teams. So, who are those five NFL teams that only played in one playoff game during the 1970s?
Good luck!
11/12/2023 - @Erik Schneider: I'm sure Diana and Dick were hilarious together. Perhaps as funny as Dick and Liz (also known as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor) when they were together.
@Diana Dors The Legacy: "Something For The Weekend": Diana Dors and Richard "Dickie" Dawson photographed at the Riverside Studios, where they were to film an appearance on the BBC programme 'A to Z'. Diana was under the banner of 'D' and treated the public to a glimpse of her Cabaret act, and Richard supplied the comedy. She looks stunning in this photograph...
11/17/2023 - @Erik Schneider: Busch Memorial Stadium was sort of like a baseball park, with a football field trapped in it. Much better suited for baseball, especially after they renovated it for baseball only in the late 1990s.
@The NFL In The 1970s: Remembering Busch Memorial Stadium.
In 1966, the St. Louis Cardinals began playing football at Busch Memorial Stadium, which had a football seating capacity of 51,392. In 1970, its natural grass playing surface was replaced with an AstroTurf field.
Busch Memorial Stadium was one of those multi-purpose "cookie cutter" stadiums that was so prevalent during the 1970s. The NFL's Cardinals shared the venue with the Major League Baseball St. Louis Cardinals. But Busch Memorial Stadium had its own unique elements that some other multi-purpose stadiums lacked. It had 39 suites and a restaurant which overlooked the field. On the awning that encircled the top level of seats, the stadium also had cut-out renditions of St. Louis' famous Gateway Arch on every panel covering the field (see photo).
The NFL's Cardinals played at Busch Memorial Stadium until they moved to Arizona in 1988. They called St. Louis their home from 1960 to 1987.
What are your memories of Busch Memorial Stadium?

11/19/2023 - @Erik Schneider: Candlestick Park like with the Oakland Coliseum, Milwaukee County, Baltimore Memorial, was a baseball park, where they happened to play football in it. Of course it was too cold for baseball at night, but it was a beautiful ballpark, at least before they renovated it for baseball in the early 70s. I think it still looked for baseball even after the 49ers moved in.
@The NFL In The 1970s: Remembering Candlestick Park.
As far as stadiums went, Candlestick Park had one of the most unique architectural designs in the entire NFL. Yes, it was a multi-purpose venue, shared by both the San Francisco 49ers and Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants.
But that is where the similarities with all of the other "cookie cutter" stadiums that were prevalent during the 1970s ended. Candlestick Park had an oval design, and it was built in several stages, going all the way back to the mid-1950s. It had a football seating capacity of 61,201, and it had retractable stands that were moved back for baseball. But because of its artificial surface during the 1970s, it was universally hated by the players. Few were the players who could escape at least minor injuries of some sort while playing at Candlestick Park. The high winds that swirled around from nearby San Francisco Bay also foiled many place-kicking attempts.
The 49ers moved there to begin their 1971 season, and they stayed there until 2013. After the first two seasons (1971 and 1972), many 49er victories were seen at Candlestick Park. It would not be until 1981, however, that the 49ers were to become a dynasty while playing there.
What are your memories of Candlestick Park?
From The NFL In The 1970s
11/26/2023 - @Erik Schneider: Roger Craig is the best all around player not in the HOF. He was a better player than Eric Dickerson.
@Keith Burgess: Why is Roger Craig not in the Hall of Fame? The first to have 1000 yards rushing and receiving in the SAME season. 3 time Super Bowl champ and 4 time Pro Bowler. He pionered the dual threat running back and was a key on the 49ers dynasty in the 80's, winning Offensive Player of the Year in 1988. RIGHT THIS WRONG!
11/26/2023 - @Keith Burgess: I don't know about being better than Dickerson. Better receiver maybe. But not a better player. Still should be a HOFer.
@Erik Schneider: No Roger Craig was a better all around player than Dickerson. Dickerson probably had more speed, but he was faster than just about everyone else and he was 6'3 , 220. I don't know where Eric was better than Roger in any other area.
