Howard University: 'Griffith Stadium: A National Ballpark'

Source:Howard University- one of the players from the early days of the Washington Redskins.

"Griffith Stadium (2011)"

From Howard University

Back in the 1930s, 40s, and even 1950s, you had a lot of NFL teams playing their games in baseball parks, like the Redskins at Griffith Stadium, but the Chicago Bears at Wrigley Field, and the Detroit Lions at Tiger Stadium, the New York Giants at Yankee Stadium, the Philadelphia Eagles at Shibe Park.

You had these NFL clubs playing football at baseball parks, because Major League Baseball is older than the National Football League and the fist professional sports stadiums that were designed America, were designed primarily for baseball. Griffith Stadium was officially a multi-purpose stadium, but only because the Redskins played their home gams there. But it was a beautiful baseball park.
